Looking for ideas for a 40th wedding anniversary holiday - love Italy and like the thought of France. Something a little different but not extreme. We love beautiful scenery, good food and drink and like watching the world go by.

River cruise? South of France or Normandy was lovely.

Sore to is very romantic, especially if you can go outside the main school holiday times. x

If you're looking at Sorrento, try the Imperial Tramontana

Now there speaks the Queen of Cruising grin

(She should be on commission!)

We went to Venice for ours. Lovely but pricey.

When are you going Kathx? I think your choice of destination will depend on the season.

It's September 2016 - want somewhere special - we went to Sorrento for 25th anniversary loved it. Have it in my mind of sitting in a café with a lovely glass of wine, sun shining with beautiful scenery but not in the middle of nowhere. Not asking much!

For my 60th we did a Uniworld cruise based on Venice....amazing! Cannot fault the service this company gives and Venice is...... well Venice!

We went to Chateau Saint Martin in Vence, really special.

We went to Perth, WA, for ours last November - but we did have a baby grandson to visit there as well smile

Loved Perth and hoping to get back there before himself retires in a couple of years.

If your prepared to travel a bit further, try San Francisco. We went there for our 40th. Loads to do, culture, shopping, romantic rooftop restaurants and warmth!

DH and I honeymooned in Sorrento. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. Back in the early '80's it was wonderful, and appeared to be the hotel of choice for posh weddings. There was one on almost every day! If it's still as good I can highly recommend it.
Where did you go for your honeymoon. Have you been back. Fancy a trip down memory lane? smile

It was our Ruby Anniversary last year and we went on a Rhine Cruise.

Fabulous, my DH wouldn't go on an ocean cruise but even he admitted he liked the river cruise. Get up each morning on your way to the next port of call, beautiful scenery as you float by. You can sit in your cabin open the sliding doors and sit back and watch or go on the sun deck. Have a delicious lunch and then go ashore to your next destination.

I'd go on another like a shot if it wasn't for the cost.

How about a spa hotel in Santorini? Fantastic sunsets and lots of tavernas overlooking the caldera, and there's lots of weddings there to get the romantic feelings going. I can recommend a hotel if you are interested.

Welcome hulahoop What about renting a cottage for you all. My friend did that recently for her 60th. 6 adults 4 children they had a whale of a time. They ordered in a meal on her actual birthday.

Congratulations kath hope you find something nice. I had planned a river cruise with Great Rail Journeys for DH 70th next year through the wine regions in France but am a bit worried about the situation in the Tunnel now re delays etc so we will go to the Algarve. Our Ruby Wedding is the next year so I would like a Caribbean cruise - as a cruise virgin I was hoping to get some tips on here for that.

We went here for our honeymoon . I would like to go back for our 50th - four years to go. Must admit we dined there only as we were camping but they were lovely to this young couple with their ancient car
