Wash your hair every day, that's what I do. Use a gentle shampoo.

And no, it won't fall out or damage it in any way - I've done it every day for 50+ tears and my hair us fine. I do condition it every day too.

Tears??? Years!!

Anya Sun 03-Jan-16 10:47:22

In fact I'd better go and jump in the shower now ...have you seen the time? shock

My hairdresser advised me not to wash my hair every day but who knows smile
I use a dry shampoo in-between washes. I have yet to find a shampoo that keeps hair from being greasy longer than any other.
On the up side mine is less of a problem as I've got older.

Don't use any conditioner, and all hair products add to the greasy problem.Use shampoo just for greasy hair. Don't overbrush it.

My hair tends towards greasy and i use a tea tree shampoo from Holland and Barrett. My hair feels very clean after i've used it and it seems to stay that way between washes. I generally wash it once or twice a week. I have the conditioner that goes with it, but i don't use it very often.

I have always had greasy hair, but have gone from washing it every day to every other since growing it to shoulder length. It feels a bit yucky by the end of the second day, but seems to be improving. I use Head and Shoulders, although I have never suffered from dandruff, which I use to shampoo just once per session. It seems the best at stripping the grease. I then put on a leave-in conditioner (Mixed Chicks), avoiding the roots, and allow to dry naturally.
My mother used to wash her hair once a fortnight, saying it only settled down in the second week! She could never understand how frequently I needed to wash mine.

the trouble with Head and Shoulders is that it also strips out any colour, so if you colour your hair or have highlight/lowlights, never use this!

Why not try mixing vinegar into your last rinse water ?

tiredoldwoman Sun 03-Jan-16 12:11:05

Yes, I sometimes use vinegar too . Feels really clean, stays fresh for longer and gives me bouncy curls ! Might be something to do with the acidity .

I agree with roses My hairdresser used to say don't use conditioner on thin or greasy hair.

trisher Sun 03-Jan-16 13:31:38

Always had greasy hair. Have to wash everyday and condition - never believe hairdressers they live in a separate universe where things are very different! If I don't wash it because I am not seeing anyone that day I wear a hat when I go outside.
I've tried not washing every day-It doesn't work!!!! Not unless you want hair that sticks to your scalp.
All the stories about washing making hair thin/unmanageable/worse are rubbish.
Problem now of course is the grey/white bits are not greasy and need conditioner.

Anya Sun 03-Jan-16 15:08:14

We were bound to agree on something eventually trisher grin

All these stories are rubbish and my hairdresser tells me she washes her hair every day as she, obviously, has to look her best in the salon. The secret is to use a gentle (frequent use) good quality shampoo, only shampoo the once and a tiny dab of conditioner.

trisher Sun 03-Jan-16 16:10:37

There we go Anya. We are in agreement about the important things. Hair matters!!!

Anya Sun 03-Jan-16 16:26:33

Indeed trisher

I probably shouldn't have given advice on hair as mine all fell out about five years ago sad When I had some it was greasy though!

My daughter`s had a greasy hair problem for years, and has tried no end of different shampoos with no change to her hair. There is also a problem in getting hold of shampoo for greasy hair, it`s not as much in evidence as it used to be. But a few months ago, whilst browsing in Superdrug, I saw a shampoo, admittedly quite cheap, for greasy hair, bought some, and it`s great! It`s their own brand, Green Apple and Tea Tree, at the moment it`s £2.29 for a 400ml bottle, but 2 for £3. Worth giving it a try. My problem is the opposite, my hair is too dry.

Many thanks,number please,will give it a try
