Cruising clothes

I would join Cruise Critic and log into your cruise. There will be loads of people on there who can tell you precisely what you want to know. There are regulars on all the lines and tend to be very helpful.

By the way if you get the dedicated coach service for the cruise line you can pack as much as you like. But if you are flying home then you have to keep to airline weights.

Cruising clothes ??? there was me thinking what did I wear in the 60's along the High Street, Saturday night with my mates.

Cunard Line, Queen Mary 2

Pamaga, you will really enjoy yourself going on the Queen Mary.
Myself and my late husband went on the present Queen Lizzy, soon after it had been launched. The boat first went to the Caneries, so we went on the next trip that was to the Caribbean and had a wonderful experience. I have photos of the Queen Mary near the island of Granada.
You will enjoy yourself, the food was everywhere, especially as it was over a Christmas period.

I have found that day clothes on cruises are no different to those worn on any other holiday.

Trousers with an elasticated bit at the sides, by the sounds of it

Depending on the weather crop trousers, chinos, t shirts, blouses and for evening wear I always take a pair of black trousers. The blouses double up for evening with any other tops you own. A black skirt is useful for formal evenings. I wear a velvet jacket sometimes which I've had for years.

The Queen Mary is a fast ship so take a cardigan and jacket because it can be windy out on deck and comfortable walking shoes. Because the ship is large you will get plenty of exercise. It is a lovely ship and the cabins are spacious. I hope you have a good time.

I'm going on a train soon, can anyone recommend some train clothes?

Rubylady, in my experience train clothes are pretty much the same as bus clothes, maybe just a tad posher.

Oh well, I'll have to take a bus then, I don't do posh.

I don't do posh either but I do find that train clothes need lots of pockets.

Train and bus clothes do need to be washable, too, (though not until your trip is finished and you are back home again)

Long dresses for formal nights. Cunard have stopped doing semiformal
are you in Brittania or the grills. Tend to be a bit dressier in the grills. Denim, jeans and swimwear not allowed in the restaurants.
I tend to wear a dressy top and skirt or a dressy dress for non formal evenings.

I'm slumming it on emerald princess for a week, then owners suite with Bellasnanna for two weeks on Royal princess for two weeks in June.

Rubylady ?? Trains?? A lightweight shoulder bag with room for essentials to include emergency chocolate and wet wipes! In a charity shop I found a little shrink-wrapped tin (American!) containing disposable gloves, wipes and a loo seat cover. Could be useful in desperation!

Please let me know how the cruise went, I'm living vicariously through this thread at the moment as our cruise plans are very much in the early stages!
But my concern would be the size of the ships and the amount of walking, from deck to eaterie, entertainment etc, as I have painful bunions which make extended time on my feet a misery. What's more, I've found a great solution for daytime, Fidelio bunion shoes that are also wide fit and fit the bill well, but they won't cut it for dressy evening do's, anyone out there have a similar problem? Where can I get nice dressy " cruise proof" shoes for painful bunions?

I've found that sticking to one main colour is a useful way of limiting my packing. Also well cut classic clothes paired with unusual accessories are far more flexible than lots of fussy clothing if you are trying to limit your packing.
I've picked up some very 'blingy' jewellery in places like M&S or Debenhams in their sales that look great with a well designed evening dress and have the added benefit of not actually being of any great value (never a good idea to take precious jewellery on holiday imo). Have a great time!

I have sparkly fit flops that I wear for evenings Woolfie. They just have the toe post so no pressure on the sides of my feet!

I don't have any advice as I've never been on a cruise and, at the moment I'm too green with envy to add any constructive comments ?
