Yers, HK does feel very safe, even late at night. There are a few no go places, but they are not on the tourist route. It is interesting (depending on your view of interesting) as a man on his own at almost any time, there are lots of very friendly ladies (not all are ladies though), they are persuasive, but never impolite.

We love HK and have visited a couple of times and stayed in Kowloon. Have never been to Disneyland though but it's on Lantau Island which also has the Big Buddha and Tai O stilt village.
Second the Star Ferry, which was about 20p and a great trip.
Also the mid level elevators might appeal to the children www.hongkongextras.com/_midlevels_escalators.html

There is so much to do in HK plus it felt very safe so I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

I would have loved to take Mrs P to HK and Singapore, but she couldn't face the flights.

The Peak at night is fantastic looking at all the lights over the harbour.

I used to stay in the Grand Harbour View Hotel on Kowloon. Kowloon is much more exciting than Hong Kong island. HK is the business centre.

There are lots on interesting areas on Kowloon, but I guess you will be in DL most of the time. The other place worth a visit, just for the view is "The PeaK" on HK.

The trains are very good and easy to use.

I used to go to HK 3/4 times a year for about a week. Our office was in KWUN TONG
