Walk-in bath or sit-in shower?

Help! Getting in, and even worse, out of my old bath endangers life & limb! I'd like a new shower unit, but Granpa likes his bath. Are those walk-in baths any good? Anybody got one? Was it a good buy, or would you advise against? Any advice gratefully received....

Sorry wilygran I don't know but would like to find out for when the time comes.

I have a shower now that I can no longer get in and out of the bath.

I bought a height adjustable stool which I think is better than a seat attached to the tiled wall. The seat, over time could loosen and it would be difficult to fix it without ruining the tiles.

The height that you require may change over the years, hence the stool I think is better.

Definitely a shower.
The walk-in bath means you have to sit in it while it fills (with the danger of the water temperature being too hot) and get chilled when letting the water out. No OT I know would recommend one, that speaks volumes!

The bath's aren't very deep, you're sitting on a raised ledge so easy to get chilled and there's the risk of slipping into the footwell bit too.
Not a good idea in my opinion.

Saw this same thread on TV, radio and films :/

What about trying a bath chair lift? Cheaper than a full refit. My Dad used one happily for years. For example:

My mum used a bath lift when she had had her stroke. smile

Thanks for the feedback. I like a shower myseIf, but fear a wet room would be a step too far for Granpa:-) I hadn't even considered bath lift, so thanks for another idea to investigate.
