Did anyone else watch this film tonight on BBC2. I watched it because I like Maxine Peake and when checking reviews beforehand The Guardian had given it 5/5.

It was sort of compelling in a disturbing way. And ended without explanation or resolution.

Dh asked me.... Did he " miss something." I feel the same, perhaps it was too deep for me.

DH went to bed after about twenty minutes muttering, 'Load of old tosh.' I stuck with it but also had the feeling there was something I should be 'getting' but it was beyond me.

I get really annoyed when young women/girls are portrayed as being doo-lally once their hormones kick in. Was it written by a man? Many of us went to all girls schools and yes, there were one or two drama queens and maybe a hushed up pregnancy but to base a whole film on mysterious sexual awakening/hysteria didn't do it for me.

Maybe I'm just not deep thinking enough either, Coolgran

I had it on but didn't pay full attention as I was doing some painting. It seemed a bit dreary and the music was getting on my nerves too. I think it was based on a real event. I seem to remember that at first they thought the fainting and other symptoms were caused by something in the school but it was finally decided that it had been a case of mass hysteria.

I didn't see it but I wondered if they got the idea from the mass hysteria that went around girls in a secondary school - I think that was to do with an inoculation they all had. First one fainted, then another and another and they concluded it was nothing to do with the inoculation, it was a case of mass hysteria.
