That's it really. My freinds mostly nurses have been having a heated discussion around the British honours system. Most think it's been devalued.

Auntieflo Thu 20-Apr-17 08:14:32

Course she does. She's married to a beautiful man, has four beautiful children, is not too hard up, lives in a posh house/ houses. One wonders how on earth she manages, so her fortitude has now been recognised . Sorry blush

celebgran Thu 20-Apr-17 08:34:18

What on earth has she done to warrant an honour ?
Her famous wealthy husband bales out her in debt company,

Patenting her small daughter name beggars belief, even her children are a business commodity!

I have never got my head round getting an honour for doing your job. And if you are going to give celebs/entertainers honours why some and not others? Cynical me thinks it depends on how big your donation is to the relevant political party.

What I found amazing from the photo in todays paper is that she can actually stand up straight !!
And no, she does not deserve to be honoured. She is famous for some reason but nothing more.

grannypiper Thu 20-Apr-17 08:43:18

This makes the honours system a laughing stock. This woman has done next to nothing for this country, she doesn't use British manufacturers, she doesnt encourage young British designers and certainly doesn't employ thousands of British people

BlueBelle Thu 20-Apr-17 08:44:27

Absolute bullsxxx no of course she doesn't nor to half the others

rascal Thu 20-Apr-17 08:48:38

No! angry

ninathenana Thu 20-Apr-17 09:08:49

No way, no how !!!
as grannypiper says, it makes the whole system a laughing stock. Mind you it was pretty much there already.

If it where between VB and the lady who has ran the homeless shelter in Liverpool for the past 15yrs well I know who I would vote for every time, but I also recognise the input she has had in the fashion industry even though her designs are out of the average persons style and price bracket.

I'm not a fan of the honours system but I'm always surprised by the level of vitriol directed at Victoria Beckham. I don't know her so don't have a personal view but I wouldn't swop her life for mine. She's worked hard, made the best of whatever talent and resources she has, I say good luck to her.
Of course, there's no contest between VB and the woman who ran the homeless shelter in Liverpool but people who do that kind of thing also get OBE's. A senior nursing pal of mine was awarded one yet the work she did was no better and no worse than other people in her role. It's a bit of a lottery isn't it.

The honours system needs a complete overhaul there is no logic to the people who do and do not receive honours.

pauline42 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:06:05

You are so right Teetime - when people like VB are on the list, then it's time for a complete overhaul before the whole process becomes a farce!

suzied Thu 20-Apr-17 10:09:23

Its no worse than actors such as Michael Caine getting a knighthood for earning a lot of money in ok films.

ajanela Thu 20-Apr-17 10:14:08

If you live abroad and do some charity events in the name of Britain and attend events at the British embassy you will get one. They do a lot less than thousands of people do in the UK who never get thanks or acknowledgement.

KatyK Thu 20-Apr-17 10:24:13

I sometimes think there is a lot of vitriol towards her because she seems to have everything a person would want but yet looks so unhappy. I couldn't care less personally but I do think there are more deserving people who go unrecognised.

McGilchrist41 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:30:27

I think that the majority of people in UK can see that the honours list has now been so devalued over the last few years a new system should be put in place to award only people who have self sacrificed to help humanity should be recognised.

Mauriherb Thu 20-Apr-17 10:31:16

I agree that the honours system needs looking at. Personally I don't understand why sports people and tv personalities are honoured, they get very well paid and if they are successful that should be reward enough. I think the awards should go to those who do a lot to help others and their community.

Luckygirl Thu 20-Apr-17 10:35:53

It has become a meaningless system - I put forward someone who has done so much for disadvantaged people in this area, and done it quietly behind the scenes - didn't hear a thing back. Hey ho - VB must have her moment of glory. I am not averse to her having an honour if she has done something to deserve it, but I am not sure she has.

valeriej43 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:39:26

I wonder what David thinks, he was throwing his toys out of the pram because he didnt get a knighthood not long ago,
Why do these people expecthonours, and no,i dont think she should have an OBE shes more in America than England, and employing Americans
Never liked her anyway

Oddoneout Thu 20-Apr-17 10:46:04

I am not impressed with whoever decides the honours. A woman designs dresses and gets paid huge sums. What is she being honoured for?
The Beckams are just self promoting and vapid. The tattoos say it all.

radicalnan Thu 20-Apr-17 10:57:24

NO! She does nothing, exploits her children at every opportunity and when told she was to be honoured, boasted before the official announcement. She is a crass bore, without talent.

The honours were supposed to be for civic services.........above and beyond etc. now any old celeb / sports person can have one.

Was she wearing her nan's funeral clothes at the investature ?

Tessa101 Thu 20-Apr-17 11:05:14

Of course she doesn't it is a mockery.

Arry Thu 20-Apr-17 11:06:29

No! No, definitely not, never in a million years

sunseeker Thu 20-Apr-17 11:11:54

She was honoured for her services to the fashion industry! Really! There was a rumour a year or so ago that she doesn't actually design anything but has a team doing the designing and just puts her name on it (I have no idea if that is true or not). Anything she does for charity is done in the full glare of publicity, she even exploits her own children. Many people deserve an honour before her but don't have an expensive PR team behind them.
