I'm heading out soon for a 2-hour walk with my best friend - she's been away and I've been a bit of a lazy goose!

Anyone planning to exert themselves today, apart from mooching around the kitchen? smile

Physical activity is all very well.........but for the pain! sad

I shall be on a train for several hours which will not involve much activity; but then I will be with several GC, so things might hot up! And tonight I will be sitting still whilst listening to my DD sing in a concert.

Enjoy your "riverwalk"! smile

We had a decent walk yesterday morning - six miles - and then sat around all afternoon (which is definitely not the name of the game!). We have some work to do in the garden today so I suppose that comes under the heading of physical activity?

I'm more of a stroller than a walker. My asthma puffs me out. I do have my grandson coming to stay but he's more of a cuddler than a get up n go boy (he's so wonderfully affectionate) Enjoy your walk Riverwalk
Your day sounds lovely luckygirl

I'm still recovering from a chest infection so it will just be a bit of a quiet potter in the garden this morning.

In the afternoon we are going to a Beer Festival hosted by the local Rugby Club, to hear a group called Holy Moly and the Crackers, highly recommended by DD2 shock

I have already done my usual daily 10,000 steps (about 5 miles) this morning. On Sundays I do double that with a friend. When we are chattering I don't notice the aching legs and feet. I also do exercise classes 4 days a week, despite having Polymyalgia. I shall hate it when I am no longer physically able to exercise, it makes me feel so much better than being idle.

I only did 90 minutes in the end as forgot was having an Ocado delivery at 11.00.

jane as fun as your beer festival sounds that is not physical exertion! grin

I was shopping this afternoon in the city centre and there was a Morris dancing festival going on. Some woman next to me commented that it looked more fun than going to the gym. Even if I had the stamina I'd never remember all the moves!

Greyduster, when I first moved to Suffolk(and was a bit desperate) a friend encouraged me to join the local Morris dancing group! It was hard work dancing in clogs on concrete, and eventually I gave it up due to my knees being made worse. As you say, it was also hard learning the steps, and many a time we dissolved into laughter and mayhem as someone got it wrong and chaos ensued.

My husband thought they were all weird (men wearing hats covered in flowers etc) and he may be right. Still it was fun dancing out on a summers afternoon outside a remote rural pub somewhere.I saw Suffolk villages I never knew existed.

Greyduster Sat 22-Apr-17 18:30:20

I thought it was mesmerising!

Soupy Sat 22-Apr-17 21:06:49

If it was Oxford it could have been me - we were dancing there today!

Would love to go walking - or anything really ?. I've developed persistent fast af in the last few weeks and any exercise sends me puffing hard - as well as the thumping. Hopefully things will improve soon and I'll get back to normal (whatever that is).

Our walking group did a lovely 8 mile walk yesterday along the Huddersfield canal (very flat!) with afternoon tea and a ride into the Standedge Tunnel at the end. Most people in the group are in their 70s or 80s so it's becoming increasingly difficult to choose walks which most can manage. Have to keep going though, and try to attract some more youngsters ie. 60 year olds. Have to confess that I fell asleep on the coach on the way home.

oldgoat how lovely, that sounds like my perfect day. We have walking groups in our area but they dont walk 8 miles its usually 2 to 4 miles. Think i might look into joining one of them, especially if they finish off with a coffee break or afternoon tea, such a lovely way to meet new people.

oldgoat Sun 23-Apr-17 08:11:53

travelsafar Our walking group have a 4-5 mile walk each month and most people have lunch together afterwards in a nearby pub. The majority of our walkers come on their own so having lunch helps to make it a social occasion and chance to make new friends.

If we do a 10 mile round trip we have a pub lunch halfway! One glass of wine only wine

oldgoat Sun 23-Apr-17 08:17:43

riverwalk Think if I had a pub lunch half way round AND a glass of wine, I'd be needing a bit of a nap before tackling the next 5 miles!

Greyduster Sun 23-Apr-17 08:28:32

We do the same. I do love a pub stop, but walking after anything more than a sandwich is an absolute grind, especially after The Grouse Inn in the Peak District whose steak pie is the stuff of legend! (Deep sigh).....

oldgoat Sun 23-Apr-17 08:38:40

Is that The Grouse Inn at Longshaw greyduster ? Wonder whether anybody ever organises Gransnet walks - with lunch, of course?

Greyduster Sun 23-Apr-17 08:51:51

It is indeed, oldgoat.

I've just had an operation on my foot and can't do anything! It's painful to hobble to the loo ...!

BRedhead59 Sun 23-Apr-17 09:40:50

seven miles planned this afternoon along the canal - just going to make the snacks to take!

Theoddbird Sun 23-Apr-17 09:58:16

Work later and as usual I will do between 8 and 10 thousand steps smile

seacliff Sun 23-Apr-17 10:01:30

I am getting back into walking too. Four miles max at the moment. However, if I could have a break or two,I could do more. The country side is so beautiful at this time of year.

Gransnet walks ... now there's a thought!

Jaycee5 Sun 23-Apr-17 10:19:57

I don't seem able to walk far nowadays without feeling puffy and tired but I need to push myself to do more. I have lost quite a bit of weight over the last few months and have noticed a real difference in how much I am able to do in a day.
I've been putting off the housework though and have to grit my teeth and get the floors washed today. I'm going to count that as exercise.
It is also my mother's 95th birthday today so we'll have a long chat this pm. I bought her a tablet with a sim as she lost is having trouble with her Wi-Fi but she hasn't been able to get anyone to set it up for her yet. It is frustrating being so far away.
