Two friends in the US have separately sent emails to ask what's going on .... I have no idea!

There's nothing on the BBC website but Nick Robinson made an oblique reference to it a few minutes ago - I assume it's Fake News?

I've looked and found nothing. There's some twitter feeds, but rumours that someone has died have been quashed.

No smoke without fire though? hmm

Speculation about Prince Philip online.

kittylester Thu 04-May-17 07:52:42

I saw this on The Metro feed.

Reports on Twitter that Prince Philip has died. ? true. Announcement due at 8 am I have read.

Anya Thu 04-May-17 07:55:42

Apparently announcements from Buck House are usually made at 8.00am.

NanaandGrampy Thu 04-May-17 07:56:15

They're talking about it on breakfast TV so I don't think its fake news.

Iam64 Thu 04-May-17 07:56:51

The Daily Mail on line says staff from various Royal residences are being called to Buck House - the Buck House spokesperson said this isn't unusual. Curious

She always said she'd never abdicate but .....

NfkDumpling Thu 04-May-17 07:58:49

Two minutes!

Abdicate in the middle of a General Election? Mind you, nothing should surprise us these days!

Fake news (unless you are President Trump) is when someone knowingly and deliberately posts something that is completely untrue on social media, usually because they can earn money from advertisers. For example, when there was a post that Hillary Clinton was running a paedophile group from a restaurant or café that resulted in an innocent member of the public being shot. (I think that came from a group of smart but irresponsible teenagers somewhere in Middle Europe, maybe Greece.)

Apparently, there has been, according to reliable sources, that an emergency meeting has been called at Buck House. Of course, speculation is rife about what that may mean. Of course, it could mean just about anything.

It is unlikely that someone, an important someone, has died without a public announcement because that always happens.

If it is important – or even mildly interesting – an announcement will be made.

Anya Thu 04-May-17 08:06:13

We will just have to wait.

phoenix Thu 04-May-17 08:08:48

No mention of anything on Radio 4.

NfkDumpling Thu 04-May-17 08:12:47

Humph! Nothing! May as well go and have my shower.

Riverwalk Thu 04-May-17 08:20:17

I'm off for a walk then ... instead of being glued to the news!

Rigby46 Thu 04-May-17 08:22:12

Well I think it should just have been put on FB and Twitter and be done with it. What a stupid palaver in the modern world. FFS

Rigby46 Thu 04-May-17 08:23:25

NFK I was wondering why you wanted TM to go and have your shower.........

Maggiemaybe Thu 04-May-17 08:23:58

Nothing to see here folks, let's clear the area...

Anya Thu 04-May-17 08:28:48

The meeting is reportedly set to be held at 10am today.

According to sources on social media the ‘emergency meeting’ has nothing to do with the health of Prince Philip and the Queen.

It is also reportedly nothing to do with The Queen abdicating.

Rigby46 Thu 04-May-17 08:38:50

It just shows the stupidity of announcing an announcement. They really need to join the 21st century

grannypiper Thu 04-May-17 08:47:20

I wonder if HM is going to thank her staff from Balmoral, Windsor, Buckingham etc that she is retiring ( not abdicating) to Norfolk.

sunseeker Thu 04-May-17 08:52:26

Why not just wait and see if there is an announcement. Unless someone has "insider" knowledge it is all just speculation.

Charleygirl Thu 04-May-17 08:54:10

It may be to tell us that Price Harry has popped the question.

Anniebach Thu 04-May-17 08:55:48

She will not abdicate , if her health is failing she could make Charles prince Regent.

When she met TM yesterday she was not staying st buck house and it was reported she hadn't come in from Windsor
