A Rosebush with Ruby in its name. An experience? It depends on your budget really!

A red rose bush for the garden, a voucher for a weekend away.
It really depends on your budget.

It's ours later this year, so I've just had a quick think. Probably like us they're at the stage where they've more than enough "stuff". They might even stipulate no gifts or a charity donation. If not I'd just go for a bottle of good fizz or luxury chocs or whatever they enjoy as a treat. Or a meal out if you want to spend more.

Thank you - some lovely ideas. I think they might like a rose bush actually. I take your point about too much stuff maggie and I think there is definitely a trend towards getting consumables among my friends - luxury things you wouldn't usually buy for yourself.

I bought my parents a dwarf red Magnolia, which they loved.
I know it is all a con, but for their golden anniversary I had a star named for them. They used to enjoy looking for 'their star' at night.

We are celebrating our ruby anniversary in July and not being horrid or grumpy but I would not like any of the gifts mentioned especially a rose bush.
Things we would appreciate are vouchers for a nice restaurant. A goodie hamper( think movie night in).
Fun gifts ( Ann summers)?
Weekend away ...maybe a group of friends and family could contribute.
We still have gifts unused from our silver wedding and would hate for it to happen again and the silver wedding rose someone got us was horrid.
Hope I don't sound ungrateful but I hate to see money wasted.

Not any ruby glass, as others have said, we reach a stage where we have enough "stuff"!

There is actually a rose called "Ruby Wedding".

In fact, there are roses named for practically every occasion, although I must admit that I've never seen a divorce related one, however the one called "Congratulations" could be quite multi purpose! grin

We just had ours earlier this month. The children got together a surprise lunch (our children live all over the country) by appearing one after another with two red balloons that said 40 yrs ruby wedding anniversary on it! We were both overjoyed. They also gave us two tickets to the theatre which we also enjoyed!
As I like gardening, I bought a red rose bush that said ruby 40th anniversary on the tag. Planted by my patio window so we can see it from our sitting room.

For our Ruby wedding anniversary our daughter teamed up with family and friends who were invited by us for a meal and gave us the surprise of our lives. They sent us to Dublin to the hotel ( The Shelbourne) where we had our honeymoon. How lucky were we. And we had another fabulous time second time around.

I think choice of gift is all about what the couple enjoy, I am a keen gardener so a rose bush for me would be delightful. Agree most of us don't need more stuff.

Vouchers for Afternoon Tea/Lunch/Dinner are good especially if it's a real treat, local hotel here is doing Champagne Afternoon Tea/Champagne Lunch, expensive but as a special treat worth it

For our ruby we received a lovely Ruby Wedding rose. Also a red bowl and a red glass candleholder, both of which come ou and look beautiful at Christmas.

I found online under ruby wedding ideas, a set of 3 plants, I can't remember exactly what, but one was a peony and my sister-in-law assures me they are good sturdy plants and one of their better presents. You can also buy a special edition of the newspaper from the day of the wedding.

We received a whole rose garden or vitually the same rose for our 40th, it is what everyone thinks of, so would warn against roses. Another garden plant would be more original, if they are gardeners.

I actually loved the couple of pretty vases we got.

Exerience vouchers good if you know their taste, or just an afternoon tea voucher

We were given a lovely canvas, a photo of our sons, daughter-in-law & grandson with the message 'to show what you have achieved over the forty years' we were delighted, we also received a clematis called Ruby Wedding which is in flower right now and is beautiful

I bought my SiL and her H a voucher for afternoon tea for their special anniversary. I chose somewhere near to them and in a nice venue. They loved it.

I would hate to get a bottle of anything to drink for a significant wedding anniversary. It's gone in no time and leaves no memories. We your imagination and look around for inspiration. A tree or shrub if there is a garden would at least be something to look at .

Why not try to find out (maybe from a relative or friend) what they would really like ....my in law's loved the Edinburgh Tattoo but had never been ...and mil's mother came from a small Scottish island ..so we all clubbed together and paid for petrol , hotel overnight up and down ..ferry to the island ...tickets to the Tattoo and night in Edinburgh ..they were not expecting it at all ...we gave them a small (just family) party and they thought that was it and were loving that ...but they absolutely loved the whole idea so they were delighed and we were happy ! (and it didn't cost too much (in 1984 !)

Some friends gave us a tree and a camellia bush on our wedding day (2nd one ....at the ages of 54 andf 68) which we planted in our then garden in Spain ...but have now moved twice since then ...so unless you want to dig up a rose bush and take it with you something more permanent to remember is a good idea !

Two people gave us roses and we still have them in pots 9 years later.

I've just had my Golden Wedding & received many gifts but really appreciate our Golden Wedding rose that arrived as a dry stick & is now just about to flower. Also cash that was to buy a memory. We had an elephant ride in India & a visit to the hotel where the celebrity marigold hotel was filmed. Brilliant.

Our son bought us an engraved bottle of wine and two glasses for out ruby wedding. The wine glasses can be kept as a memory and put on display.

Nothing! I don't think people expect it do they? My husband and I are glad that we still have each other. A card to acknowledge the anniversary (humerous) would be enough for us.

Harris27 Sat 10-Jun-17 22:17:02

We've just had ours and we bought a rose bush named ruby wedding with gift vouchers given . We had food treats at our favourite restaurant all lovely .
