Yesterday had a dear friend to tea and we decided to wash up by hand as the dishwasher is temporarly out of use.
She said, 'You dry as you know where everything goes in your kitchen, and I'll wash."
She washed in hot soapy suds and put the dishes on the drainer.
I always rinse in hot water.
My friend said this was not necessary, as the suds drain off on the draining board.
Or , if you dry, the suds are cleaned off by the tea towel.
So ...GN's what do you do .... do you RINSE ?

Lord above! - life is too short for rinsing!

No, I never rinse hand washed dishes. I might if I had a double sink, but I don't see the need really.

Wow!
Have I been wasting lots of hot water all these years ?

I rinse. I always think the plates etc smell (and taste) of washing up liquid if not!

Oh good .... a partner in crime!

Greyduster Fri 15-Sep-17 17:56:09

No, but I rinse the plates off before I wash them and before I put them on the dishwasher.

No, never rinse after washing up. I like to dry up and put away, my DH always leaves everything to drain.

I rinse. Can't stand the taste /smell of washing up liquid lingering on the cutlery and crockery.

Izzywizzy Fri 15-Sep-17 18:08:44

I rinse the plates before washing them in suds then rinse again ! Sounds like I've got OCD ?

Charleygirl Fri 15-Sep-17 18:23:26

I rinse plates and mugs because otherwise I taste the washing up liquid on the mugs. In fairness I rarely wash up because I have a dishwasher.

If I have to wash by hand I only rinse glasses. Like Charleygirl I have a dishwasher.

Never used a dish washer and never rinse Wash, leave to dry, put away, spend as little time in the kitchen as possible

merlotgran Fri 15-Sep-17 18:38:59

I only rinse glasses.

I always rinse. Don't want to eat any washing up liquid, thank you. If it's good enough for the dishwasher to rinse (and I don't use rinse aid either), it's good enough for washing up by hand IMO.

Greenfinch Fri 15-Sep-17 18:59:31

Never.Absolutely no need in my opinion. Have never tasted washing up liquid on anything.

I always rinse if hand washing things - depending how much I have to do I often put the suds on a sponge with a scrubby back and wash the items under a running tap or if doing a lot I clear the decks and fill one sink with clean hot water and the other with sudsy water - after washing pop into the clean hot water. I like tea towels which dry and polish too. I have some I got in US which are made from flour sacks - they are lint free and polish things well.

I rinse too, wash in one sink and rinse under a hot running tap in the other ,no dishwasher I got rid of it years ago,I like washing dishes it gives me thinking time..lol

Village Hall kitchens have to have double sinks so that dishes can be washed in one and then rinsed in the other. If you are going to regularly use them to serve food the person in charge should have a food hygeine certificate and this involves being taught to wash up "properly" which means washing ,then rinsing , then drying. Now you know!

On the occasions I don't use the dishwasher, I do rinse and stack so everything can drain and dry but do not wipe with a tea towel.

LadyGracie Fri 15-Sep-17 19:34:28

No I rinse dishes before I wash, I hate bits in the water, my SIL's washing up water looks like soup when she's finished washing up shock

kittylester Fri 15-Sep-17 19:59:24

I never use a tea towel - they harbour festering germs!

Tegan2 Fri 15-Sep-17 20:00:10

Yes; I always rinse in very hot water. But don't dry with a tea towel till everything has drained. Once saw a TV programme that did an experiment that showed that, unless the tea towel was really clean it was more hygienic to let the dishes drain. Very rarely use my dishwasher (use it as a draining board). Even my ex FIL, who used to laugh at most of my daft ideas, used to rinse his dishes after reading that it was bad to ingest tiny amounts of washing up liquid.
