How do I stick to me regime

I have put on weight recently

I eat to help deal with my emotions.

It has gotten out of hand were I am binge eating

I could give you an example of what I ate today but too ashamed if I am honest.

I would be so grateful for any advice as to HOW to stay focused on track and to my healthy eating habits.

Have tried

giving myself a reason to do it does not work
gone to weight watchers does not work

If anyone has some real solid advice I would love to hear it, maybe something that has worked for you and kept you consistent with the healthy regime.

I so look forward to your replies smile

Apologies for the typo I meant to write to MY regime

Anniebach Sun 17-Dec-17 21:34:04

I can't advise but could you not think of it as your goal not a regime?

I have the opposite problem and long to put on a stone to start, when I do I will set another goal of another stone.

Good luck x

Check the 16:8 thread.

Long term diets fail if the issues behind over eating are not dealt with.
We can all lose a bit of weight now and then in the short term.
Have you thought of seeing a hypnotherapist?

Serkeen Sun 17-Dec-17 21:52:14

I'm a bit scared of hypnotherapists sad

Just checked the 16.8 diet on google did not really understand it so I will try and find a better you tube videoa and explore that a little more.

I did used to have that problem were I was so thin I needed to put weight on, wish I could have those days back

Thank youfor your help so far smile

I’d second Jane10’s suggestion. If 16 hours is too long a fast to begin with start with 12 hours. Try to eat healthy food on your eating hours. Little portions do help.

You could also try the 5:2 way of eating, you might prefer that.

I find that writing down my weight loss, no matter how small, is a good incentive. I don’t write down any gains as loss does fluctuate. Also limit weighing to before you eat on one fixed morning a week.
Good luck, you can do it!

Put a photo of yourself on the fridge door. A bit depressing but it does sharpen the resolve when you are tempted to raid the fridge for a snack.

Serkeen Sun 17-Dec-17 22:39:50

Thank you J52 x

Yes true NotTooOld but I hate pics of myself and would be embarrasted when the family came round but maybe I could keep a pic on my phone smile thank you

I wish you could check into an eating disorder clinic like you can if you have any other 'addiction'

Serkeen Sun 17-Dec-17 22:41:43

I just need a kick start and a way NOT to use food to help cope with my emotions.

etheltbags1 Mon 18-Dec-17 07:22:26

My sympathies to the poster. Im the same. I cant give any advice but i do identify with the feeling and there are many of us in the same boatsad

Eating to deal with my emotions
You need to deal with the issues that cause you to overeat before you can lose any weight.
Is it usual to binge when upset ? If I am sad I can not eat at all.

I find the 16:8 threads on GN more helpful than google or youtube. Real experiences and good advice.
It may be obvious but if you simply don't buy the tempting stuff it won't be there to tempt you.
Walk past the cakes, biscuits, crisps, sweets etc and they won't be on your shelves in the kitchen .

Look at www.nhschoices website there is a 14 week programme with a wall chart for each week - you can stick this on your fridge and fill it in each day. I have done this before and will be doing it again after Xmas- filling in the chart seems to help somehow and the advice on the site is brilliant- not quirky or fashionable but research based healthy eating.

As well as the 16:8 thread, there's also a Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) thread. That works for me. Mind you, this time of year doesn't help, does it? Why not try to eat healthy as far as possible for these last two weeks of the year, forgive yourself when you splurge, then get back to one of these suggestions in the New Year. Stay with these threads, as mutual support helps too. Good luck flowers

Have you tried other ways to occupy your hands and mind other than with food , if its comfort eating try to binge on something else other than food , try knitting or crochet ,sewing , sort all your old photos out and put them into order in new albums etc , anything like that so you can involve yourself in to it and watch tv at the same time or listen to the radio ...

Jan51 Mon 18-Dec-17 09:51:09

Perhaps find something to do that occupies your mind and your hands. I knit, crochet and cross stitch. I get so engrossed I don't want to stop to eat.

I am a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapist), and I am also an emotional eater, and have recopgnised this, and my weight reflects how happy/sad I am in my life. It is rcognised as an eating disorder. Your G.P should be able to refer you to therapies (talking or CBT, or both) and this can be done through the NHS. There is a waiting list for these types of therapies. It is all linked around low self-worth, low self-esteem etc. Please seek help with this....it helped me get my mojo back, although I'm aware now I do slip off the wagon so to speak, and it is, for me anyway, a condition for life.

Sheilasue Mon 18-Dec-17 09:54:52

It’s comfort eating I know had the same problem myself.
I managed to stop it and I have lost weight still a bit over but not too bad.
It’s probably depression that does it.

Yellowmellow Mon 18-Dec-17 09:55:32

Fantastic advice Teatime loads of self-help on this website, but also seek some professional help. It really helps

One thing that can help, especially if you're at home all day, not working(?) Don't change your regime particularly but just don't allow yourself anything beyond a drink until noon. At midday you can have breakfast (if you're busy, you'll hardly notice.) Then 'lunch' at teatime, you won't be too hungry for a big dinner later. Really helps shed the weight, and you're still getting to eat nice stuff but losing a meal a day!

Don't be afraid of hypnosis, it can be really helpful. Ask your GP as surgeries often have links to someone who they trust.

Or get a CD for weight loss and play it on a loop as you sleep.

I have been a yo-yo dieter all my life and can easily lose weight but after a couple of months it slowly creeps back on and I’m back where I started. I decided to join slimming world January 2017 and have lost 4 & 1/2 stone to date. I go every week if I’m home and stay to group. I don’t know what it is but knowing I’m being weighed makes me face up to it. The group is so supportive and in the same place as you. I certainly don’t lose every week but I find it works for me.

Eating in excess is making up for that which is missing in your life. It comforts you .
What is going on in your personal life ?.Have you lost a loved one, been through a divorce, children left home etc?Any number of upsets can push you towards food. Can you not talk to someone, pour out your feelings? Only an expert can deal with this for you.You cannot do it alone.
Go see your doctor he/she will put you in the right direction. You are not alone and there is help out there.
