Where do you go to let off steam

I've had an arguement with the entire family and stormed off in the car. Now sitting in Sainsburys car park wondering what to do next. I don't have any friends to share my problem with so will stay here til I feel better! Childish I know, and I do feel a bit stupid, but I need a bit of space. What do you do in your moment of angst?

Luckygirl Sat 03-Feb-18 15:50:08

Go for a walk - or, more precisely, a limp!

Charleygirl Sat 03-Feb-18 15:55:52

I stay at home and usually rave to a good friend on the phone.

Nonnie Sat 03-Feb-18 16:05:21

Don't seem to need to much these days. I think the cruelty of losing our son has put everything else in perspective. Only minor rants to DH or friends.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Feb-18 16:06:18

I used to often storm out, and then realise I had nowhere to go! I take to my bed nowadays, usually.

tanith Sat 03-Feb-18 16:10:18

When I was younger I would go to my bedroom or walk but nowadays I don't need to rant or rave anymore I must of mellowed

Nowhere. I ran out of steam years ago!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Feb-18 16:15:21

I'm all for a quiet life, if possible. I was much more spiky when younger.

I never loose my temper with my family at least not in front of them,I will smile and say in my nicest "Mrs Browns" voice "thats nice" and walk away they soon get the picture of how I am feeling.
Don't be driving your car whilst upset and annoyed you never know what will happen.Drive home carefully.

PoshGran Sat 03-Feb-18 16:27:46

I don't rant, but my silences are magnificent! grin
I walk with very loud, stompy music on mp3 player, then switch to symphonic stuff to "wind down" with. Usually buy chocolate - I can eat it all myself or choose to share magnanimously if I think I may have been a teeny bit wrong & need a peace offering to open negotiations
At least go & do a bit of mooching while you're there hopeful1.
Tomorrow's another day. smile

Hope you’re feel8ng less fraught hopeful - did you go into Sainsburys and buy yourself something special for tea?

morethan2 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:31:53

I don’t usually blow my top but this time last week I was completely exasperated. I was with my family and I really felt they ‘ganged up on me’ so I stomped out and went for a walk. I’m glad it wasn’t raining because I didn’t have a coat. Somtimes we just need some space. I’m going to try out glamanana method and smile sweetly......it’ll stick in my craw though.

NanaandGrampy Sat 03-Feb-18 16:36:19

The ironing gets done when I'm in a snit with lots of huffing and slamming down the poor innocent iron :-)

Doesn't happen often thank god !!

Neeny Sat 03-Feb-18 16:41:00

There's a back road not far from my house. I drive up there, take a walk up the nature trail and let loose a scream....it's very therapeutic.

Fortunately it doesn't happen often though. ??

Daisydoo2 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:41:44

Didn't go in the shop due to looking slightly mad/deranged, t shirt, leggings and slippers, not noticed until I looked down! What a mess. Back home now and all is calm. Not sure I could do a Glamanana, but will try. It's freezing out there. Note to self: Think first.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Feb-18 16:42:19

NanaandGrampy
Is it a steam iron? smile

Daisydoo2 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:43:10

I did exactly the same as hopeful.

Menopaws Sat 03-Feb-18 16:45:03

I also do great silences but take the dog for mammoth walk around the fields opposite the house for an hour or so, weighing up pros and cons out loud, by the time I get back I'm ok, that goes for sad times too

kittylester Sat 03-Feb-18 16:50:05

I clean the kitchen in a very obvious silence!!

paddyann Sat 03-Feb-18 16:50:41

I dont need to blow off steam, never been a ranter or a nagger .My OH was always the one with a temper.I remember when our car broke down and he lost the plot, threw the tools on the ground and kicked the tyre ...he was only 21 ...I took my bag from the car and walked to the bus stop and went home and cooked dinner for him getting back.He was a bit sheepish when he got back but it didn't stop him repeating the same thing for years ...my MIL always says if he'd married anyone else he'd have been divorced within months ..yet here we are 43 years later .Lifes too short for temper tantrums

paddyann Sat 03-Feb-18 16:52:41

Menopaws sad times I walk ...miles .Just until I can face everyone else without getting upset. Then I can be there for them .

M0nica Sat 03-Feb-18 16:59:07

I am a bit like Nonnie, I used to go out for long walks, but then my sister was killed in a road accident. After that I scored everything on a scale of 10. 10 would be losing my children, 9.5 DH and DP, 9.0 my dear sister and so on.

Most of life's problems then score so low, that when faced with them, I now take a deep breath, let it out slowly and act as if nothing has happened (other people find it SO annoying grin)

NanaandGrampy Sat 03-Feb-18 18:06:01

?? it was MissAdventure

Waitrose cafe. It’s warm and has decent coffee and ai can sit out my mood while watching the world do it’s shopping. Fascinating. Then I do some shopping and go home pretending nothing has happened.

The greenhouse with my dog and battery radio. I can always find something to do that will calm me down cheer me up.

If it's at night I clamp on my headphones and listen to music.

I'm usually upbeat and cheerful though. DH is the grumpy one.
