I have heard it twice on the news, but still can't be sure if she said "flout" or "flount", when stating what Russia can't do with regard to their attitude to other countries laws etc.

Can someone enlighten me?

(perhaps this should be in Pedant's Corner, but as it's a question, I thought I would put it here!)

Is flount a word? grin
Likely to be flout in that context, flaunt doesn’t sound right.

kittylester Tue 27-Mar-18 11:14:27

Flount ought to be a word!!

I did hear her but wasn't concentrating too hard and didn't spot any awful clangers!

gillybob Tue 27-Mar-18 11:28:44

Cherrytree are you trying to get Vans into this thread?

ginny Tue 27-Mar-18 11:48:56

If she said flaunt it was probably a slip of the tongue. She does have to do a lot of talking !As gillybob says , does it really matter ?

ginny Tue 27-Mar-18 11:49:43

Flaunt ! There , now I’m doing it.

Auntieflo Tue 27-Mar-18 19:43:32

Watch out with those cotton buds - sometimes the cotton wool can come off and get stuck down your ear.
It happened to someone I know
shock

phoenix Tue 27-Mar-18 21:28:02

I have not been using them in my ears, well, not properly, just a gentle wipe around, no penetration, honest!

Still want to know if it was "flout" or "flount"...... not a lot to ask, surely.....mumble mumble grump grump...........

Jalima1108 Tue 27-Mar-18 22:06:56

Flout - definitely
