Lots of good ideas thank you! Think I had just got stuck. Michelin meal sounds good. There are some amazing restaurants in Montreal and he can’t afford Michelin!

surely you could order food or drink from a Canadian company online so that you have none of the problems of sending it. what about a cookery class of some kind?

Does your son like the theatre? Is it possible to arrange theatre ticket gift card over the internet? You can do it in the UK so I feel certain it would be possible in Canada.

Why not go for some sort of experience? We sent our son on a gliding experience, I not convinced he totally enjoyed it but at least it was different! He lives abroad so parcels are so complicated. Try a bit of googling.

If he's a foodie why not give him some vouchers to treat himself to a real Michelin star type night out . If you know which chef/s he admires then get vouchers for that chefs restaurant.

Help I am really stuck and hoping for inspiration from the grand! My son lives in Montreal and is 40 in November. I cannot think what to buy him for his birthday. At the moment he is very down in the dumps and insists he doesn’t want anything. He has not had a very good year with several things going wrong and is prone to depression. I really don’t want him to think we don’t care on his birthday as we do.

I am happy to spend about £200 (no moans grans please about the amount, this is what we spent on our other son). He is a real foodie, loves books and good wines but it is proving difficult to find something that I can post. Montreal is strict on alcohol, so I can’t post any alcohol out.

Would really appreciate any ideas?
