Great idea to walk on the beach though ?? I do miss the sea.

In your position I would go along to a mountain and outdoor gear shop, Gr8dame, and get some hiking boots.

Hi Gr8dameI suffer from plantar fasciitis which restricts which footwear I can wear at the minute . I tend to wear Sketchers most days ( work shoes, trainers and sandals) they have amazing memory cushioned soles but I’m not sure if they do waterproof shoes ( do some research though as they are very comfortable) . I too love to walk on the beach in the pebbles and stones hunting for precious seaglass that I collect . I have the oldest, ratty, tatty Berghaus walking boots that I’ve had for 20+ years and they are so comfortable I am almost pain free when I wear them . They were quite expensive back in the day but have paid for themselves hundreds of times over . I’ve walked through streams, pools and driving rain and my feet are always perfectly dry . Try one of the many outdoor shops . Good luck

They are much more comfortable than wellies (which I hate and never wear). I do a lot of dog walking and have found these to be really comfortable, proper soles for going over rough ground, padded insoles and of course they are waterproof.

Have you thought about really expensive wellingtons? I was given some made by Aigle, they are great for walking not at all like the ‘ordinary wellies’. They cost at least a hundred pounds but do last. I can recommend them!

I think it is the salt here that is ultimately going to be the problem. Salt stains both leather and fabric, even if you have treated them, and will ultimately damage them, so that is bad news if you are paying top whack for good brands. If you want them for winter use, with the winter coming up, you should be able to get a decent rubberised walking boot that will take a shock absorbing footbed. I think Karrimor do one.

I have Regatta waterproof walking shoes. They lace right up to your ankles but are not as high as boots. They are very comfortable for walking in, if a little heavy. I have tailors bunnions so many styles of shoes are uncomfortable. My advice would be to try on several different makes to see which is best.

I’ve got Brasher walking boots, with Gortex. Great from day one. I bought them in the Berghaus shop.

I don't know whether you will be actually walking in water over your feet, but if not I would recommend these Berghaus walking boots. They are the lightest leather boot on the market and require no breaking in. I wear them with shock absorbing insoles. They are not cheap, but I try on in Go Outdoors then buy on line. If you want something cheaper Cotton Traders do waterproof footwear. I hope you find something suitable.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried gel insoles but they don’t help. Unfortunately I have a scar that goes under my rib cage right across the front of my body and am in constant pain from it. I’ve worn trekker sandals all summer and they’ve been great

I have had a pair of Meindl Pro and they have kept my feet dry for all the years I’ve had them - I have walked through shallow streams in them. However, I would not bring them into contact with salt and salt water if I could help it. Could you not put gel insoles into your wellingtons?
