We had a cat for 20 years. She never used our garden as a toilet. I dread to think where she was going. Sorry I don't have an answer to your problem.

My cat will drink orange juice so I can't see that orange peel would work if he caused a nuisance! He's still an indoor cat at the moment. * Jang* are you sure it's cat's poo on the lawn? It's unusual for a cat to not at least attempt to bury it. When I saw what I thought was cat's poo on my lawn it turned out to be a hedgehog, so i now have a resident hedgehog that I feed.

I get fed up of dog poo that owners don't clear up.

I have found a battery operated ‘scaredy cat’ cat scarer works well together with leaving my rose clippings at their favourite entrance /exit point. I also occasionally throw a pan of water in their direction so they get splashed and startled but not soaked. They still walk through but tend not to linger long enough to leave their calling card.
Before using the cat scarer make sure all previous deposits are cleared and that the cat scarer is on the right frequency setting for cats as some of the scarers are for verminas well.

Place a 'FOR SALE, TOP-QUALITY CAT POO' stall at your gate. Make sure that all bags disappear over the day, and that the money jar fills up. Your neighbours will soon take steps to keep all the valuable resource for themselves!

We have two solar powered cat deterrents, which seem to work. Our neighbour said she saw a cat enter, but then scoot around the area to avoid the device.

I've tried most of the above and lots more, but what I have found to absolutely work is scattering mothballs. You can't buy them at hardware stores new (health and safety??) but they are readily available on the internet. Good luck!

My son has a similar problem, but with foxes. They are very bold and will actually stare one down when they are spotted. He has tried several methods of ridding the garden of them, but to no avail.

Lemon juice and orange peel didn’t work on our garden, but have great success with used coffee grounds, we collect them up for a few days, and then spoon them on to the areas favoured by the cats .

We also have this problem. I think our neighbourhood cats pick and choose where and when they will poo, as it’s not an everyday occurence. I used to think cats buried their poo, but read that dominant cats do not, and a more submissive cat will bury theirs, so the dominant ones don’t smell them. It’s a sort of marker for the others in the area.
I tried Lions Roar, which worked, then ran out.
Get Off my Garden, Cat and Dog repellent,is another good one, and smells quite nice. It is a sort of gel crystals.
I tried chilli, cayenne and curry powder, as a mix, don’t know if it kept the cats away, but made me sneeze.
At the moment, I have covered any bare earth with lavender clippings, smells lovely, but not sure if it will work. It’s the bare earth that they seem to like. Little devils. I can’t get too cross, as we have a most beautiful little cat who visits us, and is so friendly.

Badgers! In the past they dug up huge swathes if our lawn. Ruined it. Then a local yokel said to soak three rags in creosote (not sure you can get it now but try) and put the rags in dishes in three corners of the garden. Job done. Never got them again. They are creatures of habit so obviously went to someone else’s garden without a pong!
More recently when we got moles we shoved a creosote soaked rag into the hole. Worked a treat!

Carly, pretty much what we did in our garden to stop the cats all my husband was ever watch with a water pistol and now the problem has died down.

Had a dog who died 3 years ago. Had cats but not allowed to roam and kept in at night. Tried orange peel, coffee grounds, holly leaves, garlic concoction nothing worked keeping local cats of garden. Then tried a solar power cat deterent that emits a noise humans don't hear and cats hate. Works a treat. Just stick in garden at angles to cover areas used as toilets, great.

Our next door neighbour has 12 cats, and some of them think our garden is a toilet. Weirdly some of them poo on the grass which is what we find most annoying. We’ve tried a sonar deterrent and that made no difference. We’ve tried coffee grounds but that didn’t work. I’d love to find a solution... At one point they were using the flower pots by our front door as a toilet. We tried coffee grounds but the only thing that worked was covering the soil in gravel, which I assume was too uncomfortable for them. But we don’t want to cover the lawn in gravel.

I believe that if kittens are taken from the mother too young they do not learn to cover their crap. Often rescue cats are 'untrained' orphans. All the cats I have ever owned used litter trays as kittens and then I moved them to a space in the garden and then eventually they used the soil. I generally knew where not to plant seeds!

My cat is an outdoor cat. All my neighbours have dogs so I have told them to let their dogs out to chase my cat. They won’t catch him but will hopefully deter him from toileting in their gardens. He is still a friendly little chap and doesn’t seem stressed by them doing this. The neighbours didn’t like the idea at first, but after cleaning several ? ‘s they soon got on board with it.

Perhaps all humans should be 'house humans' because they cause far much more mess in the world than cats will ever do! Should we get rid of all wild birds too because they poo on windows, paths and cars? Animals have as much right to be in the world as humans, probably more right because they are not intent on ruining the planet for their offspring.
