Smelling of mould

I collect picnic hampers and bought this one off Gumtree. It wasn’t until I got it home that I realised it had a strong smell, as if it had been stored in an attic or garage. Like mould but there is none to be seen on it!
My question is, does anyone know how to remove the smell? I’ve washed all the detachable items but the case itself smells quite sickening ?

When I spilled a pack of milk in the back of the car, despite scrubbing and soaking and mopping the smell of sour milk was pervasive, so when the boot carpet had dried I sprayed it with Neutrdol carpet smell neutraliser.

I have had a quick look online. It is available from allgood supermarkets, Wilco and Pound Stretcher. It was many years ago, but we bought it in Halfords.

Oh, it took a number of repeat sprays to finally banish the smell.

Spray it with Febreze air freshener. It’s supposed to remove smells, not mask them.

Dilute soda crystals will get rid of any smell- I used it on a dustbin a fox had sprayed.

Bicarbonate of soda supposedly eliminates odours.

A couple of things you could try:

Fill the empty case with crumpled newspaper (works in fridges that have been in storage)

Fill with a fullers earth based cat litter.

The outer part of the case seems to be fabric covered? If so, sprinkle with ordinary soda crystals, (which these days are more like powder) leave for a couple of days and vacuum off.

Good luck!
