I remember my Grandad taking up floorboards and running wax along the edges , then screwing them down again, he used hard soap on drawer runners

Lift them up and sprinkle talcum powder on the joins. Works a treat.

Also used talcum powder successfully in the past.

I've tried talcum powder, beeswax and screwing the boards down and it's not made the slightest difference, I think it's the joists causing the problem in this house.

Usually screwing them down does the trick, if they're properly aligned and not warped.

Our first house had awfully creaky floorboards. Santa Claus couldn't creep along to the children's bedrooms ?. When we changed the carpets, we had the floorboards screwed down. It fixed the problem.

Talcum powder definitely works.

One consolation (perhaps) - I remember being told by an experienced joiner that floor boards which creak don't have dry rot, but I'm not sure why. We have a creaky floorboard which can be very useful to point out DGC getting up too late/early.

We've got squeaky creaky floors too, but as the house was built in 2005 there aren't any floor boards as such, just that board stuff.

Now, if anyone can tell me how to stop them creaking, I would be very grateful!

When my flat was being renovated before I moved in, I commented on the squeaky floorboards being annoying and was told it was where they weren't screwed down. Silly me - I fondly imagined they would have got the message that I'd like them screwed down (well, duh!), but on my next visit the carpet had been delayed without that being done! It still annoys me now when walking across my room (the noisiest bit) 4 years later!

Agree with talcum powder.

Can anyone please advise if they have obtained legal advice for access to their gc thru the courts and whether the outcome was positive?

I would try starting a new thread Joyfulnanna, as your post may get lost on this one about floorboards. smile

As for the floorboards, I can remember my DF screwing them down, but perhaps not very successfully as they carried on squeaking but not as much as before.

We tried talcum powder and taking them up and screwing them back down, it did help but didn’t completely solve the problem. Moving to a bungalow with concrete floors was
a blessing.
