What did you wear in 1975/76

During the day I lived in jeans, think they were flared, and cheesecloth shirts. I know I had suede desert boots then.

It was the time of maxi dresses and I had a few for evenings out. I think my high heeled shoes had platforms.

Platform shoes with a stacked heels. Corduroy jacket, floppy straw hat, very lacy cotton blouse with a manderin collar. Lots of long skirts, still a bit milkmaidy. Was too old for a disco by then. I got married in 1976.

Going for a night out at the local Palais-de-Danse I recall trying (and probably failing) to look glamorous. We often wore V-neck dresses with fell just below the knee - mini-skirts being a bit old-hat by then.
Our shoes were fancy platforms which we carried with us in a paper bag and changed into in the ladies so as not to spoil them. Unlike todays girls we always wore coats and gave them in at a special desk, getting a ticket in exchange. We made a bottle of coca-cola last all night.

Always a long dress for a disco - often homemade from Laura Ashley material. Flares, skinny rib tops (I had a skinny rib shaped body in those days!) and cork soles platforms for any other type of going out. Like LullyDully I got married in 1976 and wore a cream floaty polyester long dress with a high neck and sort of cape shaped sleeves, plus the obligatory floppy hat and platform shoes.
I also had a patchwork fake suede coat with a fake fur collar in various shades of brown. I loved that coat. There was a lot of brown around in those days. Strangely I can't stand it now.
In 1971 I wore a PVC pink (!) maxi coat with black PVC boots, with white platform soles. Doesn't bear thinking about now, does it? I thought I was the bees knees though.

Well, I went to a disco in the early 1960. In the dock area of Antwerp with some US Coast guard cadets.

I certainly went to some in London in the mid 60s. 1990s must have been when they made a come-back!!

I was at the young mother stage in the mid 1970s and I can remember wearing a shiny bright red pvc maxi coat, still some mini skirts, personally never really liked maxi skirts, but I wore jeans and boots. For evening outings I had a full length dress, up to the neck with full billowy sleeves. Another woman was wearing the same dress but was shorter and plumper than me and it is the only time in my life I can remember being in this situation and actually thinking the dress looked better on me. Usually it was the other way round.

Either long dresses or loons, flared, with a t shirt and my long black velvet cloak. Very Pink Floyd! Oh yeah, and that de-rigour dazed expression! Met my husband in a nightclub in Leicester Square, The Sundown. Happy Daze

Flared jeans. Massive wooden platforms. Cheesecloth shirt. Sometimes a denim waistcoat. Hair trying to be like Farrah Fawcett Majors out of Charlie's Angels. And White Musk, or Patchouli or Sandalwood in an oily perfumy substance.

I had desert boots too - blue ones, for school.

I remember flared jeans and platforms, and velvet blazers, and buying the occasional thing in Biba when they moved into the larger store in Kensington High Street. I think I wore ribbed jumpers with short sleeves over long voluminous sleeved shirts I'd bought there, crepe material, they had rounded collars, long cuffs with lots of tiny buttons. I had a range of different length skirts, mini, midi, maxi. At some stage in the '70s straight jeans came in again, but I can't remember when, I recall meeting a friend of mine who was bang on trend and was a model for a while, meeting me wearing them and immediately feeling my flares were all a bit passe, I also remember those baggy slouchy boots, because I bought a pair in a Russell and Bromley type shoe shop and they cost me an arm and a leg. I was a bridesmaid mid 70s and we got our dresses from Laura Ashley, very floral....and yes oil of Patchouli if we were going to a concert.

Just reading these posts bring back so many memories

I left home to live with 20 other girls in 1970, we all used to go to a rather seedy club within easy walking distance, where girls got in free! Getting ready seemed to take forever, lots of glittery eye shadow, Mary Quant or Biba, false eye lashes, my friend used to iron my hair to make it dead straight!

We all favoured different styles, I wore long, often trailing on the ground, cheesecloth dresses, often barefoot, my best friend wore tiny hot pants and platform shoes, day wear, loons, in every colour, grandad style T-shirt’s.

I also remember a couple of years later, discovering Laura Ashley, which was of course totally different than it is now. I also loved a shoe shop called Sascha, very high. Wooden platforms, with brightly coloured suede tops

It was a time when almost anything was ok, I also remember wearing the tiniest skirts, and white PVC boots, with a red midi PVC raincoat!

White jeans, cheesecloth shirts, fabulous platform shoes, skinny rib jumpers, I had a green suede full length coat. I loved clothes and had loads. I was tall and slim and I loved every minute of it.

Maxi dresses for parties!

I've never owned a maxi dress and hated the smell of patchouli oil. I can't be certain but I think 1975 I was wearing oxford bags with a tiny waistcoat, long suede coat and platforms. I was 21 and single and clothes mad.

By 1975 I`d been married for 12 years and had 5 kids, so discos were out of the question. The only dances I went to were hubby`s annual works do, one I remember was a straight black skirt, normal length, with a gold lame blouse borrowed off my SIL, plus black high heels. Another year it was a dress my mother made me, fairly straight, long sleeves and high neck, shiny material in pink and blue stripes, sounds awful, but the colours sort of merged into each other, it was quite nice.

trouser suits and crepe blouses for work and a Donegal tweed suit taht I lusted over but couldn't afford until my lovely boss got fed up of me talking about it and handed me the cash plus enough for a lovely green tie neck blouse ..all from Richard Shops in Sauchiehall St .I had that suit for years ,it had a midi length a line skirt and I loved it .I rarely wore jeans and bought dresses and skirts from Chelsea Girl ,patchwork suede was a favourite with skinny rib jumpers and strappy high heeled platform sandals .I got married in 75 and I was 21 .My dress was chiffon over satin with a lace trim,high neck and long sleeves I didn't wear a veil.hated them I wore a small jewelled Juliet cap on its own on my page boy hair cut

Would any of you be prepared to share your experience of going to a disco in the mid-1970s?

It wouldn't have been a 'disco' but we did go to quite a few 'do's' and I would have worn maternity clothes! I remember making a dress from Laura Ashley fabric.

In 1975 I’d lived in Hongkong for a year.
A lot of the time it was hot and humid, so I didn’t wear very much.
I do remember a pair of really wide-legged pale blue denim trousers that I bought from a boutique called Birds, not long after we arrived. Teamed with cheesecloth tops and t-shirts from market stalls, where was a never-ending supply of over-runs and samples from the factories that supplied shops in the U.K. and Europe.
Another buy from Birds was a black gathered midi skirt with a dipped hem in a silky fabric, that I wore all the time with various tops and which made it to the dressing-up box years later.
In the winter months I had a Donegal tweed jacket and skirt which I had made in a tailoring class at night school and which I wore on the flight out to Hongkong. I thought I was the bees knees

Tiered Laura Ashley dresses which gathered under the bust as I was pregnant much of the 70s! Other times cheesecloth tops with variously coloured denims.

I remember wearing a long dark green velvet skirt with a black long sleeved t shirt, the sleeves were very wide at the ends. I had a pair of flared denim jeans with red stars on them. I wore silver platform boots, oh the memories !!!
I was married in 1974, in a registry office, and wore a long Laura Ashley dress and a white floppy hat. Those were the days.

i was only a youngster then but i managed eventually to get my mum to agree to me having a halter neck top. i think it must be around this time i was mad over the bay city rollers so had a full outfit tartan and all!

Oh yes, and cheesecloth tops with little mirrors in the design.
