Sore feet

Apologies if this is the wrong forum. My daughter is going to be involved in a very long walk for charity. Yesterday she did a practice walk of 15K (less than half of final distance), sadly she has blisters on the soles of her feet. My question: years ago my Dad used to put something on his feet after soaking them, it was ‘Spirit of something’ or ‘something spirit’, does any have any idea what it may be. Thank you.

Surgical spirit

Useful info here.

It could it be surgical or methylated spirits, but according to Google these are applied to the feet before walking to 'toughen' them up before blisters form. Good luck to your daughter.

The NHS leaflet I posted says otherwise. The only caveat being don't use if it stings (ie broken skin).

Thank you both so much LondonGranny and gt66. It was surgical spirit, I will have a look at the site now LondonGranny, thank you both again.

Can I suggest she invests in some proper walking socks. Thousand Mile Socks are particularly good with their inner cotton liner and wool outer. It stops the kind of chafing and blisters that just one layer of sock creates on the sole of the foot.

Like Eglantine, I would definitely recommend a pair of double layer socks. Mine are Runderwear and I find them very comfy.

I don't know how long it is until the charity walk, but hopefully her feet will have healed up by then.

Another advocate of the special socks here...thousand miles are wonderful unless as in our house the dog steals them...
We have a dog with a penchant ?

I haven't done anything like that but I have walked some quite long distances, supposedly for pleasure!

I found that a change of socks and, if possible, of shoes really helped.

Two weekends ago my daughter completed a 26 mile overnight walk through London streets, in aid of Cancer Research Uk . She wore the double layer socks other posters have mentioned and had no blisters at all.

I was told that Vaseline is good to use on blisters.

You do really have to look up the best recommended socks shoes etc My son does 100 mile runs and usually loses a toe nail or two but they have to use all sorts of stuff not only on feet but there are obscure things like nipple rub too ?
