Do you wear a wig?

I've always had fine hair and it's dead straight, putting rollers in, curling tongs etc are a waste of effort. I've settled for hats but I will be interested to hear others experience with wigs too.

I don't wear a wig however I would say take advice on the use of a wig.
There are so many questions I would want to ask
Which type is the best
Real hair or
Synthetic
How long do they last
Do I wash them as I would my own hair
Do I need a professional fitter
How to take care of my own hair.
The last thing you want is to damage your own hair.
I suspect they will feel like you have a hat on and it will be hot.

Can't help but watching with interest. I'm beginning to wish celebrities would talk openly about this issue too. Some started to talk about thinning hair and then stopped. Male celebrities starting to talk about hair transplants and one of the strictly judges mentioned her hair piece but I have no idea where to go or what to do. I fear it will be out of my budget. Hairdressers could surely help their business to make it normal additional service.

I bought a wig, and found it hot and itchy. I have on occasion just had to whip it off. Then my poor thin hair underneath sticking to my scalp, not a good look.
Cost was about £200 so mid range I suppose. I don’t wear it now. It sits in its box.
It always looked like a wig to me because there was so much hair which I just wasn’t used to, so despite friends saying it looked nice I felt it looked too obvious.
Why not go to a shop and try a few, I might be unusual in finding it hot and itchy. You might be fine.

I often wonder if wearing a hat could cause hair to thin (perhaps not) so wonder if wearing a wig could do the same?

There are several vitamins and supplements on the market which claim to help hair/nail growth which could be worth a try.

I wear a wig and it's been a life-changer for me. I've always had fine thin hair but a medical condition accelerated the thinning to the point where I hated going out, especially if it was windy or raining.

The wig I wear is a synthetic one (Amy) from the Ellen Wille range, and is my second one since mid-2018. They cost around £200 (exc VAT which I don't pay as I asked my GP to sign a form to say it was required for medical reasons.)

I bought mine from a lovely local lady who provides wigs for the public and for hospital patients. She was very understanding and talked me through the differences between synthetic and real hair (and now there is also a blend of both types). She ordered three for me to try and, at this second visit, she fitted the one I chose and it was cut and styled (thinned out) there and then by a professional hairdresser.

Synthetic wigs are said not to last as long as real hair wigs - about six months - but I get nine months' wear from mine. You need to wash it every 7-10 days using specially-formulated shampoo in lukewarm water then swish it around before rinsing and putting them on a wig stand to dry. In the morning, just pop it on your head - and that's it.
Synthetic wigs need very little attention once you've had them styled to suit.

My hair always looks great - as I've always hoped it would be - and very natural. No-one believes it's a wig. I chose the colour Dark Sand Rooted (so it's low-lighted rather than a solid colour). I wear my wig all day and absolutely love it! It has honestly given me a new lease of life!!

I'm very tempted to get one. I have the very fine, straggly type of hair that won't hold a curl so it's always in a ponytail. I wash and style it every three days - so getting sick of that. If I'm going somewhere special, it takes hours to style it.

My friend is Afro-Caribbean and has very short hair and several wigs. She wears them only to go out and usually has a hat on indoors. It seems so convenient to just pop a wig on!

I am having chemo and I have a wig. I went to Trendco - highly recommend them. It cost £150 and is on a mesh base. I wear a wig cap underneath to hold it in place. It is not hot. You wash it in a bowl of water and shampoo and it can be styled.
Everybody tells me it is very natural - even my hairdresser. Here is a picture of me in it.

Wow Dragonfly that looks really good and nothing like a wig. It's one of the most natural looking wigs I've ever seen; not too full or heavy and it suits you very well indeed. I'm tempted now!

Someone came to the house to fit wigs for my aunt. I got a lovely one too but it's too warm.

When I was having chemo and lost my hair, I bought 3 wigs - one nearest my usual colour and style, one a wee bit different and one completely and totally outrageous. I had plans to blaze a trail for all wig wearers ?

Unfortuneatly I only managed to wearvany of them for 20 minutes or so before tearing them off in frustration. I found them so very hot and uncomfortable, I was constantly tugging at them.
When I realised it must look as though I had nits, I gave in and just 2ore lots of different hats instead.

If you can bear them, they really do look super these days!

I do wear a wig. Not because I need one, but because I hate my hair. It makes me look like a chipmunk that’s been run over by an M1 Abraham’s US military standard tank. It makes me feel very youthful and sexy. I recommend. ?

ellasadandold you did make me laugh with the image you described even though I'm going to have to google the tank! I am amazed at how my hair keeps being shed, not helped by so many older men&women than myself who have a full head if hair.

I lost my hair with chemotherapy and I bought a wig from Ama*on beforehand and it was the same white colour as my own hair. I wore it when 1 went out and everyone thought it looked very natural especially as it was very similar to my normal style. The good thing was it was only £20 so maybe you could buy something similar to see if you like wearing a wig first. Now my hair has grown to about half an inch all over I don't bother wearing the wig anymore.
