Thank God Thursday's over

Sounds like a fairly normal day to me. I suppose it depends on your age and state of health.

Mhavevsome dayscwhich leave me exhausted but usually because I am out of my “comfort zone)
E.g.
Tuesday last week
Book club in the morning
Home to pack an overnight bag
Dog to kennels (30 mins drive away)
Drive to MK station, train to Euston
Tube to Walthamstow, collect DGS from his nursery walk him home (him scooting which means me pulling him most of the way while he balances)
Supper with DGS and SIL
Bed then very early morning start as SIL had to leave at 6.30 to drive to Cotswolds where he was staying overnight.
Or Thursday
Get DGS up at 6.30 (groan)
Play pirate ships etc, breakfast, he dresses himself - well sort of)
Tube to Euston when Sis in law took over mid morning
Train to MK
Drive home, shower and wash hair because I hadn’t had time at DD’s
Drive back to MK station, train to Birmingham New Street
Uber to DD1’s, look after DGS2 and DGD while she collects DGS1 from tennis
Bath DGD, stories etc

It should have read “I have some days which leave me exhausted.....”

It does depend on our age. I'm 84 this month. I want to keep doing all the things I used to do. I hate my loss of vigor.
But my get up and go has got up and gone .
What can we older grans do to compensate for our decline?

I'm working, studying, volunteering, 5 children still at home and people are currently throwing spanners in my works. I don't know how to not be exhausted lately but I have a small break coming up to see my father and I literally cannot wait to just get up and only worry about basics for a few days x

Wow, Fennel, I imagined you being twenty years younger! Respect from me too.

Thursday's are my "heavy" day too. GC arrive at 07.30 and have their breakfast with me. Get them ready for school and nursery and out of the door by 08.45. Walk GD to her school and then retrace my steps and walk 1 mile in the opposite direction to take GS to nursery for 09.30.

Work from home from 10.00 until 14.45 and set off to do the 1 mile walk back to nursery to collect GS. Retrace steps and go back to school to collect GD at 15.30. Back home to supervise homework, make their tea, make a meal for DS and DIL for when they call to collect GC on their way home from work. GC collected at 18.45.

It's a long day!

Got up at 6 afraid of sleeping in and missing my early lift to hospital appointment. Heavy traffic and stressful search to find right department. Then all went well, went for breakfast on way home, still not allowed to drive so spent afternoon making soup and reading. Had a nap then watched tv, now exhausted! Pathetic!

Up at seven.
Checked GN
Washed hair
Had breakfast
Put on washing
Checked on DH up a ladder, lopping branches
Dried hair
Cleaned bathrooms
Cleaned internal glass and mirrors.
Put out washing
Dyed three pairs of DH's faded chinos
Checked again on DH
Made hot cross buns
Had lunch
Watched Doctors
Decorated wedding guest book
Cleaned washing machine to get rid of black dye
Made tags for favours for DD's wedding.
Made more wedding stuff
Amended wedding stuff at DD's request.
DGD arrived home from nursery.
Played with DGD.
Made DGD's dinner
Made our dinner
Showered DGD
Got DGD ready for bed
Made DGD's supper.
Read DGD a story.
Chatted to DIL
Said good bye to DGD
Went for a bath
Collapsed in front of TV.?

This was a quiet day! ?

I'm surprised you made hot cross buns before lunch in your busy day Marydoll. I use Mary Berry's recipe and they take 2 1/2 hours, as do Jamie's and Paul Hollywood's. Which recipe do you use?

My day was busy compared to most days.

Checked GN, FB, Emails, played the odd addictive computer game.
Got up, showered, washed head.
Went to hospital and saw my lovely oncology registrar after buying coffee.
Rushed home because I had forgotten to take my steroids which are now keeping me awake because I took them too late.
Rushed out again to Tesco.
Had lunch then watched Doctors and Brits Abroad while playing computer games.
Cooked dinner.
Put on PJ’s, while DH cleared up, and sat in front of Death in Paradise.
Now in bed.
As you see no cleaning involved I am ashamed to say!

Ellianne, the dough was left over from yesterday's batch. I keep it in the fridge overnight and let it come back to room temp. They are never as successful as the previous day's batch, but I hate waste and they are edible, just not as light.

It's a recipe from the Sunday Times from over thirty years ago. It's falling to pieces, but if you like I could try and post it.
I have used other recipes, but always come back to this one.

I tend to make the dough early in the morning and do other chores, until it rises, but certainly not 21/2 hrs. I have been known to make it late at night and let it rise slowly overnight in a cool room. This recipe never fails me.
