I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I am very new to this - 82 going on 21!

I am a young 70 this year. I only joined GN a couple of weeks ago and find all the conversations really interesting and good to know that there are like minded people out there.
I already have a 3 year GS and my daughter is now expecting her second child in September - hopefully by then all this quarantine will be over.

Became a gran (or Ninny as my granddaughter calls me!) at 50 and am now 65. My granddaughter Lola is 15, gorgeous, clever and such a thoughtful kid. Feel so lucky to have her in my life and miss her and my two daughters dreadfully during this lockdown

Why did I join?Well, I'd calculated that today's grandparents were 60s Swingers - and that sounded fun!gringringrin

Gagajo, you are obviously following the wrong threads....if you think people on GN are all opinionated.
On the stress of house buying thread in House and Home, so many posters have been the mainstay of each other, totally supportive and helpful. We have become pretty close friends and will try to arrange a special meet up (although we cover the whole country and Oz) when this surreal time is behind us
The people there are my first port of call each morning, we now chat about all sorts of things, but still in such a friendly and helpful manner

Became a granny at 71 for the first time, and then second grandchild born 21 months later. Younger one turned 1 three weeks ago and I turn 74 in three weeks time. Love spending time with them and babysitting, so I look forward to the end of 'lockdown'. Elder grandchild got to blow me a kiss and sign 'I love you' when her mum was leaving provisions on my doorstep.

I’m 45 I’m not a gran but have two nieces! I joined the site after entering a competition and found the articles very interesting. I was worried ? because I’m not a Grand parent so I emailed the site explaining the situation and was told I’m welcome. So I hope nobody minds. I also hope everyone is well. Take Care of yourselves and each other!

I am 56 and have 3 children but no grandchildren as yet. I found mumsnet talk dedicated to chat about babies and young kids so felt I would like to be part of a more varied set up while I await my much longed for grandchildren. The topics here are interesting and useful and with few exceptions the ladies and their opinions helpful and kind.

For the most part they are, Pussycat2012. Welcome to Gransnet. I was 71 when first granddaughter was born, I hope you don’t have to wait so long! I love my little ones now and enjoy FaceTiming them most days,

I Joined Gransnet 5 years ago at the age of 74 more out of curiosity than anything else.
I became a Gran at 38 and have 2 granddaughters 40 and 37, 2 grandsons 19 and 15, finally great grandson 10 and great granddaughter 8.
Looking forward to getting together with them all when the current situation comes to an end

I cant remember exactly how old I was having my first grandchild but now have 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren! It really makes you feel old when your children become grand-parents! I am now 87 and cant beleive where all the years have gone, I still feel the same about the important things as I did at twenty. Will I ever grow up?

Bellanonna Fri 10-Apr-20 23:09:34

Please don’t, JMarion ?. And congratulations on your lovely big family!

Hi I have not posted before but really need to ask if anyone else is having the same trouble with a newly turned 13 year old grandson. He lives with his mum about 3 hours drive away from me and my son - temp.here during lockdown. This young man appears to get up at lunchtime, plays on his xbox with his mates until 3 or 4 in the morning and then goes to sleep. This is all taking place in his bed - or "pit" as his mother calls it - and am not sure how much fresh air he is getting. No school work is being done and am really concerned that he will be so behind he will not be able to catchup. I think he is actaully quite clever but plays the fool in the class and is very unresponsive to any authority - Mum or teachers. How do I from a distance help to get him to see that he needs to do sthg about his lifestyle!!!! Sadly his Mum has always treated him as a friend so don't think there is a lot of respect there to be honest. He is pretty foul to her language wise and is bigger than her and to be honest she is a bit of a wimp which doesn;t help.
Any advice would be welcome but anyway it is good to get off my chest. I only have the one crandchild and am 68.
Thanks and stay safe everyone.

First and only grandchild in August 2019. I’m 55. I feel very cheated by fate that I can no longer get cuddles and can only see my precious girl on FaceTime. I know everyone is in the same boat, but she had just started to recognise me and not cry. now I’m worried she will forget. I can’t imagine what it must have been like in war time when children were evacuated and you couldn’t even see them on screen. I know I have a lot to be thankful for but I miss the interaction.

Ok I’m going to confess I’m 56 but have no GC...I really can’t remember how I found gransnet.
I really like it as if you need help or advice you get honest opinions.
And it’s more private with no bitchiness.
