It's useful to set another email address. I tend to have a main email address and a second one for single use type mails (where I may have bought a one-off item online). I usually just delete most of the mails or 'unsubscribe' them. But it does keep it in use for its main purpose which is to provide a recovery email address should you be locked out of your main email. Gmail encourage you to provide another email address for this reason.

Grannynannywanny's idea is one I've also adopted and I've found it to be very useful.

Avitor I had a similar problem last year when my hotmail account let me down. I felt lost without it. I’m not very tech minded but my brother advised me set up a second email account ie a hotmail and a gmail. Then you’ve got one to fall back on when the other lets you down temporarily. I did and have been glad of it to fall back on a few times. Worth doing if you only have one account

I have been trying to get into my Gmail account today and haven't been able to.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
