Unfortunately this lockdown started just after I was recovering from an op and taking it easy. It is now 6 weeks since I have done any of my classes, tennis or swimming and I now feel I have lost not only muscle tone and stamina but also the urge to do anything. I have enjoyed the lockdown so far, having peace to read,do jigsaws and cook etc but feel quite unfit now.How can I motivate myself and what keeps you going?

I walk and/or cycle every day but I'm lucky because we live in a village so have easy access to the field paths where we see few or no people.

Could you take a walk where you live? You're allowed to drive to somewhere suitable for walking if you're able to drive as long as the time taken to drive is far less than the time spent walking. You're also allowed to sit and rest during your walk.

The garden, gardening is a really good work out.
Today I’ve pressure washed, cleaned windows and paintwork outside and swept.
It’s easy to keep going in the current fabulous weather.

Ive added some light weights into my daily routine you can buy them quite cheaply or use tins instead .I have resistance bands and a pilates reformer and a power plate .I've always exercised at home simply because I didn't have time for a gym.You may feel you lack motivation but once you start you'll build up quickly and that will make you motivated .Good luck and dont push too hard too fast take it at your own pace that way you wont put yourself off .

There are lots of good fitness videos on YouTube. I’ve really got into the Leslie Sansome indoor walking ones, which range from 1 mile to 4. There are some on GN itself as well - if I could only find them I’d post a link!

The NHS has exercises on its site to help with all sorts of conditions and for people who are post-op. Perhaps give some of these a try?

Joe Wicks has 10 minute workouts for seniors on YouTube.

My pots need water carried to them in the dry weather forecast for the next few days. And when Amazon sends the liquid fertiliser I'll have to carry it to the roses.

I do something most days. There are lots of yoga classes to suit every level of ability on YouTube. I’ve also downloaded the Peloton app. I thought it was just for those who have the hugely expensive Peloton bike, but it’s not. There are different fitness classes on it. Again, lots of yoga - but also, miraculously , guided meditation sessions, which have prevented me from going crazy. AND - it’s free for the first three months!
If you’ve got your head round Zoom, you can find Pilates and HIIT classes. You need to go on Facebook and find ‘Nurturefit’. I find that my day has some structure if I have a fitness session in it. This lockdown means we’re moving much less - my goal is to be fitter at the end of it. Kind of like giving the finger to Coronavirus!
