I passed the time of day with a neighbour one morning recently, keeping to the 2 metre distance rule naturally. It started out as "Good morning, are you well" etc...... the usual stuff. I don't know if it's due to lockdown but pretty soon, everything we talked about, "she had done it before", her son "knew all about this and that", her OH "had much better garden tools".......... it was relentless but she has never been like that before, well not towards me.
Anyway, I made my escape, came back into the house where my OH asked where I had been, I told him about the conversation and we had a little chuckle about it to be honest. We now call her Mrs Bucket!
Does anyone else have a neighbour like ours?

That’ll be Judith two sheds.
If you’ve been to Tenerife she’s been to Elevenerife.

But no my neighbours are all (well nearly) lovely

I do have one who drones on about her latest cruise and she usually has a cruise at least 3 times a year ,the food is "amazing" the service"impeccable" and she meets people from all over who are so lovely (apart from the one where she met a man who lived 5 miles from here and she spent the rest of the cruise avoiding him) I'm not "cruise " minded ,you'd have to force me onto one and tie me to a chair to keep me on it .At least thers a bit of peace for now .

I think we've all met " one of THEM ". Sad people I call them, not happy unless they're bragging about something or other. Their lives can't be up to much if that's the only conversation they can muster.

Those who do have fulfilled lives don't speak about it. grin

Lucca "Elevenerife" ???

Not a neighbour but my brother is someone who bigs up everything he tells you.
I have daffodils in my garden but he has hundreds of them...
I have three apple trees but he practically has an orchard...

And so on... ???

Hey Lucca, I was christened with name Judith, and I promise I’m not like that ?

grannysyb Sun 21-Jun-20 09:56:55

DHs late brother was like this, always saying everything that they did was " marvellous ".

storynanny Sun 21-Jun-20 09:59:12

I worked with someone like that! If you had a black cat she had a blacker one!

Oldwoman70 Sun 21-Jun-20 10:18:46

I don't understand why people need to boast about what they have done or what they have - totally unnecessary.

Now you must excuse me, I am still in the dining hall and the butler needs to clear away the breakfast dishes. I also need to have a word with the chef as breakfast was not up to standard AND was served on china reserved for the servants shock

??? Thank you GNetters! Your responses are so entertaining! Keep it up, I love a giggle! Have a lovely day too!

Shelmiss Sun 21-Jun-20 10:28:13

Haha yes I know of one of those here on this site wink

Torbroud Sun 21-Jun-20 10:34:03

Attention seekers

shysal Sun 21-Jun-20 10:34:26

They are the same people who send boasting 'round robin' newsletters at Christmas. I loathe them!

Teetime Sun 21-Jun-20 10:35:02

H1954 have a look at Two Doors Down on BBC I player it features the ultimate 'one-up' neighbour but she gets it all wrong - so funny.

moonbeames Sun 21-Jun-20 10:35:30

Love that one oldwoman, love it. ha ha really brightened up my day, thanks!

Mercedes65 Sun 21-Jun-20 10:36:07

We all know one of them they know the price of everything the value of nothing

narrowboatnan Sun 21-Jun-20 10:36:23

Ooh, Shelmiss I can't have been paying attention. I hadn't noticed ?

Yellowmellow Sun 21-Jun-20 10:36:32

I have a friend like it...you have 2 choices...don't have anything to do with them (hard if they are neighbours) or pace your time and cut back on contact...and for my sanity's sake l sometimes do that!

Rosina Sun 21-Jun-20 10:37:29

We've all met them - but they are probably sad under it all and need to prove something. The 'better than yours' car, holiday etc. Tiring, though, to listen to...

Rumpunch Sun 21-Jun-20 10:40:31

oh yes but my one of my neighbours has always had everything worse than anyone else. Be it health wise or bad service !
It very unusual to have got whatever she has had ever and I have yet to hear she has just had the 'common cold' ! shock

Quizzer Sun 21-Jun-20 10:43:41

My cousin, the same age as me, has always been like this. She brags so much that you could describe it as lying! The stupid thing is that she does it in front of friends and family who know the truth. I sometimes wonder if she has been doing it for so long that she actually believes her own exaggerations.

Gingergirl Sun 21-Jun-20 10:46:01

I wonder if they realise what they’re doing sometimes. Not exactly the same but I endured my neighbour recalling a visit from her grandson last weekend, almost boasting, when she knew full well that I’m desperately waiting to see my young grandchildren. I went indoors and cried ?.

Nona4ever Sun 21-Jun-20 10:47:43

My mother-in-law’s comment on such people - ironically without realising she was the worst culprit was: ‘oh her - if she hasn’t got it downstairs, it’s in the loft.’

TrendyNannie6 Sun 21-Jun-20 10:48:47

We know someone like this, we know what she’s going to say before we meet her, all about herself and her perfect sons and daughters, it’s quite unbelievable really, people that know her cross the road to avoid, she can clear a room in seconds, it’s really sad if she would only take a interest in other people but no, she’s not going to change, her brother is completely different.

Daddima Sun 21-Jun-20 10:53:36

Teetime, I was just going to mention Cathy as well!
