Looking after grandchild

My daughter is a single parent in a relationship with a non live in boyfriend.
She also has my four year old grandson living with her.

Today, she ended up at A&E with a badly sprained ankle and can’t walk very well, so is on crutches.

I know she will need some help with dgs.
My dilemma is, both my partner and myself are vulnerable and have been isolating so far.

If I am called upon to help, which I know I will be, what should I do, as I’m not at all sure.

Would I be able to go to her house(would rather not). Or could grandson come here.
Are any of these options safe. I don’t want to compromise our health as not doing too badly so far during the pandemic.

Thanks for any advice.

I think bringing your GS to your house would be safest for you if it turns out you have to help out. Maybe the boyfriend will step up, stranger things have happened.

Hi, Grandchildren aren’t allowed in your house yet only in the garden, in England anyway. I was going to have my granddaughters this week but my Dil said she could be fined. As it’s an emergency situation you’ll have to make that decision, most people seem to be doing as they want now .

I think she will manage if the grandson is four. He is old enough to understand about mummy's sore ankle and young enough to accept changes such as simpler meals or less outings. He's also a good age for jigsaws, books and board/card games, maybe they have a garden he can poke about in too.. so hopefully not too hard to keep busy.

Obviously not as easy as being completely able-bodied but if it's a sprain it will go down reasonably soon.

Maybe you could do a food order for them? Not having to go shopping would be quite a help.

Oh, maybe if you are local you could actually cook a meal in your home and drop off on the "doorstep"too.

What help will she need exactly?
She only needs to keep the weight off the ankle for most of the time for a few days. It won't stop her playing with her son, watching TV or reading stories.
She can send for takeaways or you can put something on the doorstep.

Four year olds can be very independent and able to help with fetching and everyday things and even enjoy it!

I don't think it's serious enough to put your health at risk.

In a medical emergency I think the safest option would be to have your DGS at your house.

DH and I both fall into vulnerable categories but when our baby grandson was taken ill,the GP and paramedics both said for us to look after DGD at our house which we did happily.
