I am lucky enough to have been given several of these jars to use for storage. I am washing them but finding it difficult to removed the sticky residue from the labels. Any tips, please? Thank you.

White spirit?

WD40 works well but the best sticky label remover is Sticky Stuff Remover from Lakeland. Lasts for ages.

Sticky Stuff Remover is brilliant and has always worked for me but recently my neighbour said Mr Sheen works too, so I tried it on something and it did. Don’t know if it would work on everything though.

I agree with Naiobe, Sticky Stuff Remover is brilliant. It's obtainable from various retail outlets as well as Lakeland.

It lasts so long that I can't recall where I purchased my latest bottle, but I think it was at a supermarket.

I put glass jars in the dishwasher before recycling and the labels usually come off in the wash and collect in the well where the outflow is.

Another fan of sticky stuff remover, removes labels off every type of surface. It removes scuff marks off skirting boards caused by shoe polish and best of all removes chewing gum from hair.

I sprinkle bicarbonate of soda onto the gooey spot (I keep mine in a salt shaker, duly labelled), add a drop of cooking oil and rub it with my finger. Comes off like a charm. I learned this from a life hack video and have used it so many times since, even on book covers, puzzle boxes, etc. It REALLY works!

Hot, soapy water and a good scrub with wire wool.
Works for me ?

I am often cleaning up coffee or beetroot, etc. glass jars to use for jam and find the easiest way to remove firmly stuck labels is to half fill the jar with warm water and let it heat to boiling in the microwave. The glue melts and the label is easily removed.
