Skin Tags

I'm glad you started this post because ive 3 that I want removing.....

I had some removed at a private clinic a few years ago. It's considered a cosmetic procedure so not done on NHS ( may have changed now ) It was a laser treatment and worked but I do get others cropping up especially on my neck.

Have a piece of cotton and tie it tightly around the base of the tag, basically cut off it's supply. You will find it disappears after a few days. A friend told me this years ago as she always had to deal with them. If I get one somewhere I can easily get to it I just pinch the base of it with my nails and hold it for a minute. Repeat a few times over a day or two and same thing happens.
My son had a tag under his armpit and as it wasn't one of the tiny ones he asked his doc about getting it removed. He told him to do the cotton trick, so we did and cleared it.

I had a skin tag on my thigh it was really annoying me so I just sterilised some very sharp scissors and snipped it off and put some Germolene on and a plaster. I've had no trouble with it since.

After a small operation, a surgeon noticed a skin tag/mole on my back and he did the cotton tying procedure!

Ouch Firecracker! You're brave. I have a fibrous papule (small pimply thing) on my nose and a small lipoma on my forehead. I would love to get rid of both and know I would have to go private. It seems a bit frivolous at the moment what with covid but I do intend to find out about removal at some point.

I have a skin tag on my upper eyelid of all places! It’s quite near to the inner corner. It’s been there for less than a year and I want to get rid of it, but I won’t try the cotton tying method as it’s on my eyelid and therefore a delicate place and I don’t want to risk my eyesight. If I move the skin tag one way it looks like a small hard lump and I move it the other way it’s definitely a skin tag, flesh coloured. I’m self-conscious about it, but as people can’t get too close at the moment because of social distancing, hope no-one notices it. It does get in the way though and i’d Like it removed.

We were fortunate enough to have a skin specialist as our N.H.S. GP. He would freeze them off with liquid Nitrogen spray. This was excellent for larger skin tags that were quite flat that you can not get a string around or in awkward places on the body. One had to wear goggles when getting one removed from the face.
The painless procedure only took seconds.
You can buy LN spray, make sure it has a fine target nozzle.

N.B. It is essential that if you skin tag is coloured get it checked to make sure it is not cancerous.

Last year, from nowhere, i could feel small grains like sugar appear across the back of my neck and the shoulders, creeping round towards the front. As they got larger I ask my gp about removal. He said No. They stopped travelling forwards but the back ones continued to develop. Now I have quite a few that are a mix of flat and with a stalk.
Looking on line I saw several remedies but was unsure about trying anything on line. I asked in Boots Chemist and was offered a liquid but they didn’t know if it worked. Most of these come with instructions to be careful not to touch the surrounding skin which I think is nearly impossible.
Holland and Barrett advised Apple Cider Vinegar put on with a cotton bud. I tried this and it was really awkward. Couldn’t keep to just the tag alone and gave up. Also I could not manage the cotton on those with stalks as the stalks seemed too short.
In the end I just gave up. As did my friend who was with me in H & B and had also bought the cider vinegar.
It was weird how they had seemed to appear overnight as babies. Happy to say they didn’t develop so much towards the front. At the time I visualised them creeping up over my face.

I cut mine off with nail clippers.
Have a very sticky plaster ready, because they can bleed a lot.

Saying that, I have just noticed some big ones at the top of my thighs, and I'm not sure I'm brave enough..

I asked a practise nurse and he (it was a bloke) said make an appointment and I'll burn them off for you. So thats what he did.
He explained he could inject each one individually with anaesthetic which would hurt as much as burning them, so I went ahead without pain relief and it was a doddle. To my mind the worst part was the smell of burning flesh as each one was cauterised. It was on the nhs, but about 4 years ago.
They haven't come back, though I have grown some new ones

Reading all these posts ( which are really helpful) my stomach is doing as many flips as if I'm on the big dipper

I have 1 under my armpit and despite the fact it causes me NOOOOOO TROUBLE , I am conscious of ppl's attention being drawn to it when its exposed

The 'cotton' idea sounds the most ideal idea !!!!! Opposed to burning flesh ....

Anyway, I've 2 options ... get rid or keep my arms down .... hahahahaha

At least the cotton tying means no blood or burning flesh lol.

MY OH has crusty brown growths, mainly on his back but has two in his hairline. The nurse said they could be burnt off but he doesn't fancy that idea.

I had a large annoying one under my arm pit, I snipped it off with a very sharp scissors, job done.

Just a few weeks ago I tied some thread around a tag on my neck, just make sure it is polyester thread as it's stronger than cotton and less prone to breakage if damp for an extended period.

Another option which I tried around the back of my thigh was some Salicylic Acid in Cortisone ointment given to me by the GP previously for another tag.

To prevent it getting on surrounding skin, you have to cut a hole the size of the tag in one piece of sticky tape/plaster and press firmly to your skin so it's sealed around the perimeter, then apply the ointment or whatever you are using. This way the ointment doesn't get on areas where you don't want it or where it might cause skin irritation.

Lastly cover with a smaller piece of the same tape/plaster which can be removed to check progress in a day or three. If the tag is still intact, then dab again and top with another small piece of tape/plaster. Once the tag has fallen off remove the original piece of tape/plaster.

I used this tape method on the back of my thigh because it was difficult to tie a thread due to location....standing on one foot, other on a chair, holding a mirror and tying a thread meant I needed more than two hands...LOL However both worked OK and both tags fell off, also I noticed tiny ones starting next to the one on my neck and now that I've removed the large tag the smaller ones have dried up on their own. I'm wondering if they are like warts and have a connecting root system??

I had some tags removed by laser some years ago. It was done well. More have grown since then which don't bother me, except for one on my nose which is really annoying. I keep fiddling with it and hope it will drop off. Then it bled and formed a scab which I am hoping will drop off. Just glad I am not out and about seeing many people.

I did the same as MissAdventure without a problem.

You can buy kits from Amazon. Contains tiny bands and something to apply them with. Works the same way as cotton thread. However you really should get them examined first just to make sure they are nothing more sinister.

Mr P uses some stuff he bought on Amazon, a liquid that sort of freezes them and they then drop off.

Some beauty therapists have done an advanced electrolysis course and can to treat them. I know one that does this procedure. She is excellent and used to work for me. I’m sure there is someone in your area.

I've snipped all of mine off with sterile scissors. I also get milia which I remove by slightly slitting the skin with a needle and squeezing them out.

should never ever snip, but tie. Like lambs' tails. You need a partner to hold the tag with tweezers, and then tie a thread around the tag as close as poss to the base. It will cut off supplies and it will dry and fall off in a few days. This is of course only OK with small thins ones. No risk of infection- unlike with cutting off.

I used to get them when I wore underwired bras. Naturally, as the tags grew larger the underwiring rubbed even more and made them quite sore. Soon got rid of them though, I used dental floss in place of cotton and stopped wearing underwired bras! Problem sorted.
