Meeting up with family

In light of today’s restriction announcement does anyone know whether a breast fed baby and mum count as one unit? We had hoped to visit my son and family next week but baby makes 7!

7 is 7, sorry

On the news somebody mentioned a Family of 5 plus 2 Grandparents, they were told only 1 grandparent allowed.

I'll be watching this afternoon for clarification.

I know a young family with 5 children so they are already over the limit!

That's a real conundrum.
I would have thought mum and baby would count as one.

Now I'm wondering who would decide how old a baby had to be to "qualify".

Oopsadaisy4 Wed 09-Sep-20 13:55:26

If it isn’t inside of you presumably it counts!

I’m assuming the OP wasn’t being serious.

grannybags the limit is 6

Go to a nice Cafe and sit at tables next to each other.
A friend has 6 children in the UK, Hancock seemed very determined that there could only be 6 in each household my friend asked if that meant 2 of the children had to move out,,,,, not sure if she was joking or not??????? 3 are teenagers.

A newborn baby hasn't been anywhere apart from with its mum, though.

Now I'm doing an about turn.
The more people who are in contact with the baby, the more risk.

I signed up to get all the Government communications by email. I deleted this mornings and now I can't find it, but here is the advice this morning re the Leicester lockdown.

Groups of more than six can meet if they come from only two families or support bubbles. (my bold)

So if you've got four children you can meet with grandparents from one family, even though there will be seven or eight of you.

What you can't do is meet with one grandparent from one family and another grandparent from the other family. Or grandparents and say two siblings and their families.

Personally I think people just need to think, "might this spread the virus".

Thanks everyone. I’m waiting to hear what Boris has to say but I can’t really believe he will make the situation any clearer!
We’ve been shielding so I have really missed out on seeing my family, we did have a quick catch up in August when we were ‘let out’ but it’s so hard not seeing my grandbabies.

Having a deja vu from posts from spring, bending the rules and overinterpreting them again

Matt Hancock said this morning that he has a family of 5 and he can meet up with one grandparent making 6.
A family of 6 can't meet up with anyone else.
A family who already exceed 6 will be in the same category. No meet ups with anyone else.

I heard that children count as 1 so mum and baby are 2!

This is no longer the case.

Delivered a few minutes ago

Covid 19. What has changed
Gov. UK

You must not meet socially with people from other households in groups of more than 6

This rule will not apply to individual households or support bubbles of more than 6 who will still be able to meet together

Let’s face it, this isn’t to restrict smallish families meet-ups, it’s targeted at large groups of students and teenagers having house parties or similar. I doubt if the police would come knocking if there are 6 of you plus baby. use your common sense and use the Cummings rule.
