I placed an order with them and realised I had left some items off. I went in to change order and followed procedures. I got thrown at the end when I saw amount was for full amount and not just the extras. I paid online for original order with credit card. I cancelled the changes and went with original order which I received today. My query is if this is how Tesco add the extras but just charge for the extras. I just couldn't cope with trying to get a second payment back if full amount taken. Should I have proceeded to payment in the hope only the extra items would be charged? Second time I have ordered online with them and made no changes first time. I am sure there is someone out there with greater experience of their system.

When you add extras on to any online supermarket order the original amount is cancelled and the new amount including the extras will be taken from your CC/DC

Sorry the amount will not be deducted until your order is delivered.

Payment is only taken after delivery, because sometimes there are substitutions, so you wouldn't be charged twice. I often chop and change my order several times before delivery, so it's a good job they don't take payment every time. Hope this helps. Don't forget to continue to payment to make sure that things are added.

It says somewhere that "You will not be charged twice". In any case, the money isn't taken at all until you have accepted delivery, so what you pay will be the last amount - minus any items that you didn't accept if they were damaged or wrong.

I have had a Tesco order online every week since March.. As others have said, you are only charged once everything has been delivered. Nothing is taken from your credit card until then.
You do have to go through the whole payment procedure, every time you make changes until the end.
If anything is damaged or missing, the money is quickly refunded to your card.

I had to phone about a burst carton of cream, the refund was double the original amount and put immediately back in my account.

The young man I spoke to told me that there are a number of reminders in the process to ensure customers understand the procedures. However, customers still fail to confirm payment and don't get what they ordered.

Thank you all for your replies. I thought it would probably have worked the way you describe but was just being over cautious. I hope to order over the winter online so I am now reassured about the process.

That's right.

I find Tesco the easiest site to use and the most helpful so far. If they have to substitute you get a refund of the price difference.

Waitrose ordering system threw me because they had several items unavailable but would not process my order until I cancelled them. Then it looked as if they still charged me for those items. I was ready to challenge them online.
Two days after delivery they sent another order confirmation which was correct.
Very confusing.
