Does anyone have recent experience of a washer/dryer?

My dryer is ancient and the bearings are going on my aged washing machine. I need to sort things out. A washer-dryer sounds attractive but years ago they were terrible.

Are they better now?

Shinyredcar I’ve never owned one but I recall there was a thread a few months ago with lots of comments on the topic. Hopefully this link will lead you to it.

Yes, I had a washer/dryer but when I moved to this house 18 months ago, I got rid of it because it was useless. I'd never have another.

The drier on my washer dryer used to take hours and the clothes came out patchy. Dry in some parts and still damp in others. It was useless.

I have one, it is useless as a dryer. Would never buy another one.

I have a washer/dryer which is two years old. It works perfectly well. There's only me and I find it adequate for my needs.

I have a cheap washer dryer that is 2 weeks old.
It has lots of redundant functions but the quick wash is good and it has a sensor to stop the dryer when the items are dry. They have come a long way but are still not perfect. Good for when space is limited.

We have a fairly old Candy washer/dryer. It’s fine for what we need, but if space allowed I’d have separate appliances. We don’t use the dryer very much nowadays.

I have a Siemens W/d, which is quite good, but I live alone, and only use the dryer to finish off towels. It’s true that combi machines don’t dry as effectively, so it depends on how much you need to use it.

We have an Indesit in an apartment we rent out it has a maintenance contract, twice needed for breakdowns, so if you only have space for a washer/dryer, take a breakdown contract.

My adult children (3) all use them.
They don’t have children and don’t iron !
None have problems and all love them ?

I could have written NanTheWiser’s post. Same machine which works fine for me.

They do neither job properly.

Depends how much washing you do. I live on my own so it’s just one person’s laundry, and a washer-dryer works fine for me because I never have more than half a load of washing. It doesn’t tumble out creases as well as a stand-alone dryer, but it saves space in my kitchen.

I bought one less than 6 months ago. It is an I expensive Baumatic model. I'm quite happy with it and do not regret the purchase. I do like when I can though to dry my laundry on the line in good weather. Get yourself one and enjoy using it.

I wouldn’t buy one. Had a useless one years ago. Buy a decent washing machine that is capable of delivering a 90 degree wash and a separate dryer. I have a small Creda which I use for finishing off bed linen or smaller items. Decided years ago large dryers are too unnecessarily expensive to run. Also examine the warranties on them as often not as good as washers and dryers bought separately.

Thank you all so much. It is really helpful to hear actual recent experience. I will check out the comparative cost of purchase and use, before deciding.

I live in a wet part of the country so drying outside is bit of a gamble. I can’t really do without a dryer but the suggestion of a smaller one may be worth looking at.

My DM always said compromises were rarely worth the effort. But I thought that seeing how many people now live in small houses and flats, the manufacturers might have put some effort into making an efficient combo. My current machines are stacked and are a bit overwhelming

Again, thanks to all.
