I walked to the local shop this morning and came home the longer way which took about 15 minutes.
My neighbour, also in her 70s, walks for at least an hour every day and in normal times goes to a keep fit class.
I can't really get motivated to do a longer walk and enjoy reading or a crossword instead.

No formal exercise I walk to or from anything or go for a wander on the beach or woods but not for exercise I cycle to and from things no long distances and live in a house with two flights of stairs I have a garden and half an allotment, in the summer I swim in the sea
No classes though

I have to do my physio exercises regularly or I quickly lose muscle and function. If I don’t work at it I simply can’t walk so it’s a no-brainer for me.

I don't exercise, I never walk when I can ride, I'm the laziest woman on the planet. I put this down to having earned my living from dancing (and later teaching it) so I reckon I've given my joints enough bashing, wear and tear in my life (I'm 83) and they deserve a rest. smile

I don’t do as much as I did a year ago. I walk as much as I can and I do 10minutes on the stairs 3 times a week. I cycle when the weather is nice. I used to be mad for it but seem to have lost my mojo lately.

I walk a couple of times a week a few km. That’s it. I have an exercise bike but I think it is going rusty. Have good intentions but phones ring etc and I never kind of get round to it!

I walk the dog every morning; my Fitbit says I have done 6km. I usually do about at least daily.

Execise! That’s a cuss word in my vocabulary!

I have belonged to the same gym for over 20 years. Under normal circumstances I have 2 personal training sessions and 3 hour long classes a week, together with rowing machine, bike and treadmill I really have missed it during lockdown.

No exercises as such but I do walk at least 10 thousand steps most days I miss it if I don’t get out.

ExD Fri 09-Apr-21 15:03:48

Oh - I do (did) go swimming once a week.

Walking is exercise enough without putting added strain on the joints. How many sportsmen/ women have suffered with their joints ?
I've done enough walking in my lifetime to last a lifetime grin
There's never been a car for me.This is rest time now.

I don't have any joint pain whatsoever and still have my own hips and knee-caps. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Attend a gym and do aqua usually but this last year have walked and took up jogging...just a few km every other day...exercise makes me hungry but it also clears my head and helps me sleep.

I enjoy walking for up to an hour and do it 3-4 times a week. Always have a companion, be it DH or a friend. I probably wouldn’t bother on my own.

It depends on what you mean by exercise. Exercise is that ghastly thing that is the result of government and medical hectoring telling you to walk faster, Exercise more, do this, do that, if you enjoy it it is bad for your health. I haven't done one second of that since I left school

On the other hand, I am fidgetty phil who can't sit still, I love walking round our village. I expect to hear the first lark of spring soon. At the moment there are primroses and other wild spring flowers everywhere and they are a joy to see. I also do 20 minutes Tai Chi most days and a 1 hour class every week. Tai Chi is gentle and reflective it is relaxing and slows and calms the mind and also happens to be good for my balance and joints. Then there is the gardening, I grow my own fruit and veg and really enjoy eating it.

But if you are talking about Exercise, forget it.

I found quite a nice class this morning on Facebook. It's called get over yourself. It was 15 minutes so maybe I can try that tomorrow.

I was very fit when I was young my working life kept me lean. I worked outdoors for years probably walking ten miles a day. I went to the gym for circuit training three nights a week I later travelled eighteen miles to our business walking and a train ride. I have had osteoarthritis since I was about fifty it’s a nightmare. I am always pottering in and out the garden take the dog out for a good walk too.
We went to our DS yesterday to sit in the garden and then for a long walk with the twins. I must admit my knee and foot were throbbing afterwards. I said to my husband later on I cannot believe I am the same person. At sixty four I hobble around like an old woman it depressing. I have to keep on the move otherwise my joints will seize up all together.

I walk to our local town centre when the weather is dry, it’s about a mike away and I walk back if I don’t have heavy shopping, that’s about three times a week. I take the dog out for about 45 minutes before lunch but it’s a slow walk because he likes to sniff everything. I have a treadmill in the garage but at the moment I can’t get at it because DH has been doing some carpentry and there are tools and old doors everywhere.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 16:03:02

I think just keeping active is sufficient as you age.

I frequently walk the dog, - not every day as DH does the lions share.

I did join a gym, but found it mind numbingly boring so gave that up. Plus found the other members so very intense.

I garden as much as I can, and go out and about as much as possible given current regulations.

That’s it, but if I have a day doing not a lot I can happily live with it.

Like Monica I do Tai Chi but my practice has not been so good during lockdown and I can't wait to get back to my classes. I also like to walk and I think housework counts quite a lot towards exercise (that is when I can be bothered to do it). Have never been into sports or the gym but whatever exercise you choose has to be enjoyable rather than doing it for the sake of it.
