I asked DH to pick up a card for GS. This is what he bought, which was fine except its all very pink.
Would you give this to a boy ?

love0c Sun 09-May-21 08:59:57

No.

CafeAuLait Sun 09-May-21 09:00:23

Yes, I would.

MerylStreep Sun 09-May-21 09:02:05

Ooooh, no no no.
If you can’t get out this is where Amazon is your friend
Next day delivery. Or is that too late ?

FannyCornforth Sun 09-May-21 09:03:06

No. Moonpig?

Urmstongran Sun 09-May-21 09:03:42

Be careful with the pink for girls and blue for boys these days. An awful lot of people simply bristle at the idea.

Amberone Sun 09-May-21 09:04:54

No. But your husband obviously would so maybe I'm wrong. And it depends on how much of a gentle soul your GC is.

I think my youngest nephew, who is now 14, would be horrified at all the hearts rather than the pink, and think it a bit soppy.

FannyCornforth Sun 09-May-21 09:05:17

It's the hearts though...
Interestingly, Urms, it used to be the other way around.

Never mind the pink and blue thing. Some are bristling at boys and girls. ?

Witzend Sun 09-May-21 09:07:32

I wouldn’t, but then I’m hardly 100% on trend when it comes to ‘gender stereotyping’.

These are the cards I will shortly be sending to a nephew’s dcs, they will be 12 (boy) and 14 (girl).
Can you possibly guess which is which? grin

But if it’s any comfort, I’m not sure I’d expect my dh to choose what I’d choose, either.

Lollin Sun 09-May-21 09:11:43

That’s annoying do you have anyone you could save it for or, Just a thought, could you write something like grandad should have gone to spec..... (you know the opticians advert) inside it -might give him a good laugh.

Witzend Sun 09-May-21 09:11:58

In my ‘defence’ should add that I bought them pre the easing of lockdown, so choice was limited. I have to buy in plenty of time - when I think about it - otherwise I’m all too prone to forget altogether, esp. when it comes to relatives I so rarely see.

❤️ it!

EllanVannin Sun 09-May-21 09:16:21

Sorry, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Pink isn't right.

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 09-May-21 09:16:56

Send him back to get a different one.

BlueBelle Sun 09-May-21 09:18:20

My granddaughter when she was about 16 picked a lovely card for her mum ..... drum roll..... except it said to my step mum
We all had a good laugh
I wouldn’t pick that exact card for a boy but pink wouldn’t worry me nor would hearts but together with the flowery cup make it a bit more girly but is he in tune with his feminine side or is he a rough and tumble dirty kneed boy It obviously appealed to your husband OR he picked the first one up with a 12 on it ??

cornergran Sun 09-May-21 09:20:42

Depends on the recipient. If he’d like it then send it. Not about colour of the card in my view rather if the recipient would like to receive it.

Greyduster Sun 09-May-21 09:24:34

We have a fourteen year old who would thank us very polite and then hide it in the nearest drawer, rather than display it. Not all children are the same; you know your grandchild but it sounds as if you don’t think it will go down very well.

Sara1954 Sun 09-May-21 09:35:46

I don’t think any of our boys have a problem with pink, but I suppose overall, it is a bit girly.
I’d send it though.

ninathenana Sun 09-May-21 09:49:54

Thanks everyone, you have confirmed what I thought

Moonpig it is ?

CafeAuLait Sun 09-May-21 09:50:52

It looks more red on my monitor. One of my sons wears pink a lot so I don't think it matters. There's a lot more men's clothing in pink these days.

ninathenana Sun 09-May-21 09:52:21

Bluebelle I think you may be right ?

Nansnet Sun 09-May-21 11:12:40

This reminds me of when my dad went out to buy a birthday card for one of his elderly friends. He came back with a lovely card, which a had red, glittery stiletto heeled shoe on it. Only problem was that it was for an elderly gentleman!Lol When I asked if he'd looked at it properly, he said he'd just noticed it said 'Happy Birthday' on the front!grin

toscalily Sun 09-May-21 11:46:08

Has to be a no to the card & yes to Moonpig. Mind you most 12 year old boys would probably be so eager to see if there is some money or a voucher inside they may not really notice how pink it is. grin
