Seeing as most of us will be spending a lot more time indoors, and hopefully chatting on Gransnet grin, is there anything you'd like to see more of? Would more conversation starters like those we did during Lurkers' Week give those who need it a distraction from talking about the virus? Could we host a 'skillshare' where gransnetters can post a video of themselves teaching a skill? Would you like to have a daily exercise video? Anything else you can think of or suggest we will happily take a look into and see what we can do? It's a pretty rubbish time for most of us so anything we can do together to make our daily lives easier or just a little nicer, please let us know. smile

Daily exercise video would be good.

It also occurs to me that some folk may be entirely lonely with no family contact etc. If these folk get into difficulty it would be good to be able to help. The issue I guess is breaking anonymity. Is there a way around this I wonder?

Personally, I would like more Brexit discussions.....

No, not really. smile

No MissAdventure! We're only just recovering... grin

Seriously, though, I really like the more meandering threads, where people just have a chat.

The lurker threads were quite good for getting people talking (non confrontational) but I think seeing it on so many threads was offputting.

Maybe you could post a more gritty question each day, for those who like arguing debating?

I second an exercise routine please.

gillybob Thu 19-Mar-20 16:05:14

What about something on the lines of ... today’s big question ? HQ could start it off and others could take over . Setting a daily “Big question” . It needn’t be based on current events either .

grin

Yes, there's talk of extending transition

rosenoir Thu 19-Mar-20 16:13:06

Another vote for the exercise routine, I know there are many online but it doesn't cross my mind to look for them.

I liked the Lurkers threads so would like those for all.

They are all good suggestions Lara, especially the exercise video.
Maybe some meditating videos too? (audios, perhaps).

MissAdventure Thu 19-Mar-20 16:19:51

I love the big question idea. smile

threexnanny Thu 19-Mar-20 16:37:54

I like the above suggestions too, but wonder if we can have a TV programme open chat. A bit like an on line book club but to discuss an agreed programme. So tonight could be the 10 Years Younger for instance. I know we already do on the CHAT forum to some extent, but I think this could be a daily thing perhaps varying the genre ?

threexnanny Thu 19-Mar-20 16:40:27

Sorry - I've just seen that LARA got there before me!

NanaandGrampy Fri 20-Mar-20 09:56:04

Just one big question a day please not dozens of threads like the Lurker ones .

kittylester Fri 20-Mar-20 11:06:08

I agree N&G.

I posted the below link to MIND regarding caring for our emotional and mental health during the crisis but only one person has acknowledged it.
I'm sure others have seen it and obviously there is no need for a response every time.
However, I have seen other threads containing helpful links to help us during our isolation period.

Could we have a completely separate thread just for useful links - no responses or debates - just useful links all in one place?

Relaxation and meditation teachings would be good to help lower stress levels.

Auntieflo Fri 20-Mar-20 14:54:12

Another yes for an exercise video.
It may get me motivated to do something.

Yorksherlass Fri 20-Mar-20 15:26:31

Male strippers!!!

Only joking ,

I think ?

merlotgran Fri 20-Mar-20 15:38:47

What about something on the lines of ... today’s big question

I like the sound of that as well but like N&G says, Only one a day and it won't matter if it goes off at a tangent like discussions often do.

vegansrock Fri 20-Mar-20 15:57:30

There are lots of good exercise videos on You Tube - perhaps recommendations for good ones?
Picture of the day - have a category -people could post pictures of their lunch or what they're cooking or their garden.

Thank you! There are great suggestions here. We'll get started on these next week but please do keep them coming if you think of anything else. smile

Maybe some on line yoga tailored for an age range of anywhere between say 60 and 100, so no head stands, Despite being at the lower end of that scale I can still find the "downward dog" challenginghmm

Alexa Sat 21-Mar-20 09:38:45

Cab Gransnet employ an expert possibly for the religion section? I do of course include Humanist and progressives. A professional philosopher would suit. Can the management possibly ask around academia for some help?

My suggestion is because many of us need thoughtful interpretations of the difficult times ahead.

I know we already have food threads. But perhaps ideas of meals to cook with limited store cupboard ingredients. Hopefully the food situation will improve soon.

I like the exercise idea too. Possibly also exercises for people who aren't very mobile. ie whilst sitting in a chair.
