It's hoped that indoor pools may be allowed to open soon. It's the one thing I have missed but am still a bit worried whether it will be safe. Would you risk it?

I attend exercise sessions at our local hydro pool (lovely warm water) for arthritis. Last time they were open I was worried, but we had to book in advance as numbers were limited, 2 metre spaces were clearly set out in changing rooms, and attendants made sure everyone was strictly socially distanced.
I felt really safe although I didn't use a shower as I was happier to have one when I got home. But I'm super careful.
I wore my swimsuit under a tracksuit and a warm jumper, (well 2 warm jumpers actually) and I didn't bother with a bra coming home as I was straight into the shower. Clothes went straight into the wash.
Go for it, you'll feel so much better!

Must admit to being slightly anxious about daughter taking her family on Thursday.
They had to book a 1 hour session and there are a few restrictions

I can’t wait for our pool to open. It’s such good exercise. I think we have to learn to trust again or what’s the point?

Swimming is the thing I have missed most after my family and friends. I have considerable lower spine damage from a train crash I was in over 30 years ago and the spinal consultant gave me a list of exercises to do in water as it is kind to the joints. I used to go 2-3 times a week around 8am and would happily go through my list in the shallow end. Unfortunately, in order to observe social distancing the swimming pools now only caters for the lane swimmers so there is no room for me. I have so missed this. I would be there tomorrow if I could go.

I’m going to see what the set up is at my local pool in a few days. I don’t want to be a whole lane swimmer. I have missed going this past year.

Calendargirl Wed 14-Apr-21 18:34:56

I went swimming yesterday and today. Also went when allowed last September-December.

Have to book online, limited numbers, some lane sessions, some general swims. Queue outside, sanitise, swimsuits under clothes, chairs spaced out around pool to put belongings on. Social distance swims, no showers, changing rooms to get dressed in. Masks except when swimming.
Everything cleaned in between sessions.

I feel very safe. The pool must be supported, they always run at a loss, if they decided to close permanently it would be a great shame.

We need to exercise, would rather go swimming than wander round Primark.

We are going tomorrow, round the corner to a private pool. It costs £20 an hour for up to 5 people from one household or bubble. We are taking our DGS.
We would go to a public one if there was one but our nearest is 16miles away.

Went swimming on Tuesday and will be going again on Friday...I have missed it so much. Completely safe..you are immersed in chlorinated water... i keep away from everyone else and have a shower afterwards...simples!

Already back at the gym to use the pool. Numbers are limited but if I go at 06.15 to the smaller pool, it’s empty AND warm.

My DD had booked a slot for last Monday the first day pools were open in England. She told me she was so happy she cried! On the same day, I had booked to have my eyebrows shaped and tinted and a face wax. I told her it would be my beautician who would cry!

The pool will be ok as the virus can't survive in the water. The issue is changing rooms.
Check on the cleaning regime - but I feel fine. I have been swimming this week.

Haven't been shopping yet (all online deliveries) - feel safer swimming.

I used to love swimming and would like to take it up again. I've been told it's good for bad backs. But at 83 maybe I'm too old
for swimming really. I'm trying to decide.

greenlady102 Thu 15-Apr-21 11:06:59

no because I can't swim at all (I sink) and don't want to drown!

Greyduster Thu 15-Apr-21 11:19:36

Henetha you're never too old to swim! There's a chap who we know who uses our pool and he's 88. He swims better than either DH or I. And an eighty year old lady in our aquarobics class and that wasn't a gentle workout either. Go for it!

Jude57 Thu 15-Apr-21 11:28:35

My local pool has reopened and its so lovely to be able to swim again. Numbers are limited so there is plenty of space and masks have to worn in the building. I don't know of any documented cases of covid from swimming pools. Go for it. I've been twice this week and it is just so lovely to be back in the water. No need to worry

LaGoulue Thu 15-Apr-21 11:45:05

Regarding the cleaning regime, I read last weekend, to ensure it included shower heads because of Legionnaire’s disease. Might be best to have a shower at home?

grannylyn65 Thu 15-Apr-21 11:45:12

Ffs

Calendargirl Thu 15-Apr-21 11:51:56

As I said earlier, our pool isn’t allowing showers. No big deal. Just have one at home, years ago we never showered after swimming-there weren’t any!

Outdoor pool was opened 2 weeks ago at the local David Lloyd club but no changing rooms and although heated too cold outside for me. This Monday the indoor one and changing rooms are open. I normally swim daily, first thing in the morning before 9.a.m and have been 4 times this week. Chlorine makes the pool safe, it is nice and warm and not many there then. Nice to see people I know. The changing area feels fine too. I swam last autumn too when they were open. if you swim daily it costs less than the public pool as there is an OAP rate. You can do many things on zoom, I do tai chi and German conversation on U3A, but can't swim. I missed that a lot as am arthritic.

cookiemonster66 Thu 15-Apr-21 12:40:40

I have been swimming in the local pool this week and another session booked for Friday. All covid rules applied, hand gels, masks, distancing, limited numbers in lanes. I think the benefits from my swim far outweigh the risks of not going as I am registered disabled, the only exercise I can do is swimming, my mobility has suffered so much in lockdown. I used to swim 3 times per week. The only funny thing was the attendant stood about 10 feet away to pass me my walking stick when I got out, I was clinging onto the ladder for dear life, I said you need to come nearer I cannot reach and if I let go, I will fall in pool! bless him, joke is , sometimes I need assistance getting in and out pool which involves close contact, yet he stood 10 feet away to pass my stick! LOL!

Kim19 Thu 15-Apr-21 12:55:14

In my heart of hearts I really do think it will be okay but, for starters, I plan to go wearing my bathing suit under a hooded onesie. This will minimise my time in and out of the changing rooms. I will also take wipes and sanitiser for more peace of mind.

crazygranmda Thu 15-Apr-21 13:06:30

Restarted on Monday and just as safe as it was before. All sessions pre-booked and Lane swimming only - no overtaking! Arrive beach ready. No showers. Can go home to change or use their facilities which are constantly being cleaned. Just so glad to be back on the water. Feel totally safe there.

Carolpaint Thu 15-Apr-21 13:29:38

I understood that chlorine killed COVID. So are you not going to be ultra safe swimming in the pool? I understand about the showers, or the enclosed spaces of changing rooms. Just get on and enjoy.

Susieq62 Thu 15-Apr-21 13:55:30

I have been twice this week ! Really well organised and safe! Own locker, own cubicle, no access to showers, one way system, clean etc !
Go for it!!
