My sister died today aged 65. How do you live without the best friend who knows you better than anyone and has been there every day of my life?

It happened to me last June Fiona. My eldest sister, who had been there all my life died suddenly the day before we were going on holiday. The shock and disbelief lasted a good while and then the disbelief was replaced by anger! A strange emotion to feel when in mourning but apparently quite normal.

It has taken me over a year to get used to the idea that she is gone and that never again will I get my Sunday afternoon phone call from her. You do adjust and stop thinking about your sister 24/7. At least I have and I hope - and believe that you will too. My condolences and sympathies to you. It will get easier I promise. flowers

I am so sorry for your loss FionaC. I was the baby of our family and have lost both my sisters who were older and more like mums to me. They were havens of warmth and humour and role models and I miss them every day, but as others have said, it will get easier to bear with time. flowers

I am so sorry Fiona. Hopefully one day you will be able to remember all the good times you shared and be happy what you had such a wonderful sister and confidente. I always wanted a sister, and was always envious of those who did and could share all with. 65 is far too young and so unfair (my age sad )... my heart goes out to you x

So sorry for your lost FionaC. I lost my darling sister in 2014. She was only 68. I miss her so much. I lost my mother when I was 8 years old, so my two older sisters looked after me. I can only say that it takes time for the pain to ease. At first I felt traumatised, then angry, then an ache that wouldn't go away. So many things I have in my home she bought for me would bring fresh tears with every reminder. But as the time has passed, I can now think of her in happier times. Remember all the fun we had and somehow, the sadness has eased and been replaced with lovely memories of someone so very special. It just takes time. Sending you deepest sympathies and understanding.

I am so sorry for your loss Fiona, it is very early days for you but I hope you can find some comfort from reading our stories.
My brother died 10 years ago next month, I think of him everyday, but as others have said I remember happy and funny times too and love talking about him. He was a great story teller and the fount of all knowledge.

I never had a sister, but my best friend, who was just like a sister to me, died very suddenly.
I miss having someone I can share my thoughts with who would never speak about them to anyone else and who always had a sensible answer to a problem.

Try to remember the good times, my BF still speaks to me in my head when I have a problem

So very sorry about your sister . I can`t imagine life without mine , she is my best friend so imagine you are devastated as I would be . I hope you have people around you for support at this very sad time xxxxx

Fiona I send every sympathy to you. My younger sister died 25 years ago at the age of 45. I still miss her.

Remember the good times, but also all the things in her that drove you mad. My youngest sister and I often reminisce, happily, about the quirks in our sister's personality that drove us wild; the messages never delivered, how she was always late, but also her thoughtfulness, daintiness, and love of all her family.

Fiona I'm so sorry. It's too early yet I know but one day you will be able to remember the good times you had together and the memories you shared.

I lost my younger sister to breast cancer last year. But in truth I lost her long, long before that to alcohol addiction.
