How do you cope with this awful hot weather? I feel this has been a wasted day because I couln't do anything.I had my washing out at 8.30a.m. cleaned the kitchen(well, tidied the tops)made some bread rolls and by 9.30a.m. felt I should have another shower!I have sat in the shade in the garden, sat indoors and had lots of drinks but had no energy to make a meal. Now the weatherman says it will be the same tomorrow!I'm hoping for a thunder shower!!Norfolk is a lovely place to live but not today.

We don't really have that problem in Newcastle smile
I would just cut out making bread rolls and cleaning the kitchen and just enjoy sitting in the garden.

Sorry geordie I love it. For me the hotter the better. You have my sympathy as you hate it so much

glassortwo Sat 18-Aug-12 18:25:24

Would be nice moomin to see some of that warmth up here wouldnt it! grin

janeainsworth Sat 18-Aug-12 18:27:10

I suppose we do have the scenery moomin smile
We have just had DS, DiL and 2DGs staying with us for the last fortnight (they live in the States) and I really felt quite proud that there were so many good things to see and do up here.

I love it too, sorry for those that don't though, I have my chair outside under the trees with my kindle and bottle of water been there most of the day. If I knew it was going to last I get the quick up pool out and fill it for the grandkids to enjoy next week. (I say its for the grandkids to the neighbours too but its really mine all mine, its fab for lying in on a hot summer evening when all the kiddies have gone home...

We have the best scenery and some of the best beaches in Northumberland jane I hope your family enjoyed our beautiful North East.

glassortwo Sat 18-Aug-12 18:31:21

tanith I would say go on get it out grin

janeainsworth Sat 18-Aug-12 18:35:56

Yes they did thank you Glass, I was just so grateful the weather had improved before they got here. Mind you I have spent the last week since they went back recovering!

glassortwo Sat 18-Aug-12 18:40:27

DGC do have a habit of wearing you out smile I had not realised you were from the North East jane.

geordiejoy Sat 18-Aug-12 18:45:19

janeainsworth I'm not very good at just sitting so had to do sme jobs to justify myself. I often think, also, that growing up in Newcastle didn't prepare me for hot weather anywhere!nobody knows the north east better than me and always sing its praises.Doing my teacher training in lots of the villages in Northumberland were some of my best times.

The sun didn't come out here (East Cheshire) until after lunch. It was showery this morning. Lovely evening now. I like the heat as long as I don't have to do anything too demanding!
I miss having the family here - two nights isn't enough, but I'm going to see DiL and the GC on her parents' narrow boat sometime during the week.

geordiejoy I am in Norfolk too and it has been unbearable, and like am dismayed at finding there is more of the same tomorrow,I love bright, warm and breezy,I hate and dread hot, humid, where the sweat just pours down your face, and you have no energy what so ever,August is my least favourite month because of this.....another muggy night with very little sleep....

Grannylin Sat 18-Aug-12 22:06:15

Thick fog and drizzle all day in far southwest today sad

glassortwo Sat 18-Aug-12 22:06:54

nellie move up to the North East and you will only occasionally get the heat, but its the best place in the world to be. wink

jeni Sat 18-Aug-12 22:11:40

Lovely afternoon here!

NfkDumpling Sat 18-Aug-12 22:35:33

Hey Geordiejoy and Nellie, we've got all this coast and sea to sit in when it's hot. (mind you the roads to get there are a bit of a challenge)

Ariadne Sun 19-Aug-12 07:08:19

So hot! We slept with curtains and every window open, under just a sheet. It reminded me of South Africa earlier this year, because the humidity was high too.
I am not made for this sort of heat, where you are wet before you move, and I had to keep moving yesterday, with family and friends over for lunch. Phew!

NfkDumpling Sun 19-Aug-12 07:48:30

Looking after daughter's dog at present and he was huffing and panting all night. Going to throw him in the sea today!

Butternut Sun 19-Aug-12 07:48:36

Tall, freestanding fans are a boon when the heat's up. I have one to the side of my bed - it has a remote control and timer, too. The other one I shuffle around the house as and when.
Taking a cold shower and then standing in front of one, still wet, is bliss!
Yesterday the temp. reached 95F (in the shade). What makes it manageable is that it's a dry heat. It's the humidity that I find exhausting.

Ariande - Not much fun having to move when the humidity is high!

NfkDumpling Sun 19-Aug-12 07:49:59

Thanks Butternut - I'd forgotten we have a fan in the attic!

JO4 Sun 19-Aug-12 10:17:26

Butternut is the fan in the bathroom when you do that?! shock

Or do you pad, dripping, through to the bedroom?

Butternut Sun 19-Aug-12 10:21:05

J - grin I pad, dripping......

JO4 Sun 19-Aug-12 10:22:46

Phew!!

I guess that's ok. smile
