and go to any kind of convention re same, just be careful.

You may run into the likes of this lovely lady! shock

I was chairing the panel discussion she appeared on, j05.

When I asked if her writing had damaged any of her relationships, she said she had no relationships. So I asked if she'd regretted anything she'd written and she said: "all of it."

The audience was very polite and respectful and, frankly, alarmed.

She didn't say anything about how we might all as well be wearing burkas or that all the bloggers in the room (and by implication all women who don't work for newspapers) have a narrow vision.

Make of this what you will, but it didn't seem exceptionally brave.

I've just read some comments someone called "Cambridge mummy" has made about her. Very good! grin

Are we (or you two) talking about Liz Jones? confused

Ana Thu 15-Nov-12 17:28:56

Or that fed-up-looking woman at the computer?

jO5 Thu 15-Nov-12 17:56:09

Geraldine and Cari at the Mumsnet Convention about how to get your blog published

Ana Thu 15-Nov-12 18:10:26

Oh! I thought she made her living out of discussing her 'relationships'...wink

jO5 Thu 15-Nov-12 18:20:21

No. Doesn't sound like there would be a lot to discuss!

Ana Thu 15-Nov-12 18:23:55

When I used to buy the Mail on Sunday several years ago, she wrote about her on/off relationship with her husband every week! It went on, and on and on.....

jO5 Thu 15-Nov-12 18:35:14

grin

I wonder why Mumsnet invited her in the first place! grin

Ana Thu 15-Nov-12 18:40:38

To have a look at all the work she's had done on her face, perhaps? She makes no secret of it....

Elegran Thu 15-Nov-12 18:50:34

What a snidy b***h!

Ana Thu 15-Nov-12 18:54:57

Charming creature!!! new spin on notion of "guest" speaker.

Elegran Thu 15-Nov-12 19:37:47

She'll be handing back her fee, then, as this is obviously not the kind of publication she wants to have dealings with?

Elegran Thu 15-Nov-12 19:49:55

She does not think very highly of mothers who focus on the job of bringing up their children and give up climbing the career path while they do it, relying instead on whatever they can do to scrape a little money. If their resources are only what lies about them - their lives and surroundings - that bores her, so she condemns them for using that.

She does not like children and has no intention of doing the job of raising one, even part-time. Most of us do not like handling the contents of other people's dustbins, but it is a job that has to be done, and well done those who take it on, for little money and no applause. If they could make a second job out of writing a blog exchanging hints and opinions and chitchat with other binmen, then they would earn my congratulations.

Whereas those who make a living from calling themselves "artists" and sneering at other women only earn my contempt.

I follow her column in the Mail on Sunday every week - it is hilarious. She moved to Devon and all the locals hated her. She once wrote that she had no money for food, and pensioners were sending her ten pound notes. The next week she is boasting about her designer clothes - her dog sleeps on a Versace rug!

Elegran Thu 15-Nov-12 20:06:23

Fine as comedy - not as funny when she attacks people though. Cheap and nasty.

Greatnan Fri 16-Nov-12 01:29:07

Elegran - the comedy is entirely unintended on her part! She is so truly awful, you have to laugh. She keeps telling us how kind and generous she is and that she bought her sister a house. And she wonders why her own family don't speak to her.

Elegran Fri 16-Nov-12 07:04:34

A lovely lady!

I suppose anyone who seeks the limelight so assiduously must have a skin like a rhinocerous (actually rhinocerous skins are very sensitive, despite being so thick)

JessM Fri 16-Nov-12 07:17:15

Did not seem to me to be a good piece of writing either. Rambling a bit?

Elegran Fri 16-Nov-12 07:39:59

Not exactly a structured piece - more a wander from one rant to another.

It have must been very easy to write - just sit down at the keyboard and let the bile flow. I wonder whether she read it through after dashing it off to see how it sounded.

She wouldn't last more than three posts on Gransnet - demolished by the robust, the sensitive and the style pedants, simultaneously.

miaowww

Elegran Fri 16-Nov-12 07:42:31

Move "to see how it sounded" to follow "through". I should read that through to .... oh you know what I mean.
