Writing memoir

Have only just seen this so presumably your novel is finished. I like to write short stories and poetry but would never be brave enough to attempt a novel.

I think most people who write sometimes include people they know, places they have seen, things that they have experienced. Quite often they don't often realise they are doing it.

In poetry it is easy to make it more obscure. Some years ago I attended writing classes and we produced a little booklet at the end. I gave a copy to my three sons and my sister. S.he told me later that she had wept over one of the poems. SHE was instantly aware that it was referring to our parents.

A novel I hope to finish for NaNoWriMo in November is based in part on autobiographical sources but the protagonists names are all changed or left off altogether in the case of public figures. Cities are reduced to neighbourhoods and if you didn't live where I did, you'd have no idea. The only things unchanged are the cars and all of the cars I've owned or driven or admired in neighbours' driveways are real, as are the motorcycles. The book is aimed at ages 12 and up and will be very family-friendly, taking the main protagonist from age one to age ninety.

Now then, Cari - don't let the stress of leadership get to you so soon!!
