One in three women in the world have been sexually abused - that means one in three of you have probably had some terrible experience. But the figures released by the Children's Commission of 600,000 to 1 million young people under eighteen having been sexually abused, ninety per cent in the home, are the ones that particularly horrify me.

That is why I have taken the responsibility to be UK co-ordinator of the important global campaign One Billion Rising, started by Eve Ensler, the social activist and author of Vagina Monologues.

This year our day of activism on 14 February - Valentine's Day - is going to focus on the vulnerable young and I believe that it is us, the grandmothers who must take the lead.

As grandmother of five beautiful children under the age of twelve, I feel strongly that it is our generation who must stand up and say 'no more'. We want our grandchildren to be safe in their beds, their homes, their schools and their communities.

We want to be there for them in every way. We want to keep them protected, fed and loved - and for them to understand the true meaning of love and healthy relationships.

Women were the drummers in society thousands of years ago and this year, on 14 February, we are asking the grandmothers to again take their drums, take to the streets, speak, celebrate and dance together to say no more sexual violence to children and women.

Like the GoGos of Africa, the grandmothers that care for the children, many of whom have lost their parents through HIV/Aids, we grandmothers of the UK must stand up, be heard, lead our communities and say 'no more abuse to our children'!

Women were the drummers in society thousands of years ago and this year, on 14 February, we are asking the grandmothers to again take their drums, take to the streets, speak, celebrate and dance together to say no more sexual violence to children and women.

So do join us in Marble Arch at noon on Saturday, 14 February and bring your drums, your dancing shoes and your love. And it's not just London - please take leadership in your community, your town and your cities. Gather together with other like-minded loving GoGos and start drumming.

Use saucepans, dustbins lids, whatever comes to hand. Let midday on 14 February rise everywhere with the beat of our hearts and the sound of our drums all over the UK to show our collective strength.

We want to be heard in shopping centres, sports grounds, churches, village halls, synagogues, outside mosques, and everywhere people gather. Let's make sure that Valentine's Day truly becomes a day of love instead of an excuse for more consumerism.

Let's open our huge hearts up to our own grandchildren and every grandchild in the world and come together as grandmothers of change. I believe this is just the beginning. We can continue to come together to mentor and support vulnerable young people in our families and our communities.

Join our Facebook page or start a forum here on Gransnet, where we can stand up together and be heard. Please create a One Billion Rising for Love in your community or join us in Marble Arch and show the country that grandmothers have a collective voice that says No to Violation of our Children!!!
