I am really enjoying this book. It is fascinating to read, the characters and the plot are interesting and it is very easy to have empathy with Amina in particular. I really want to see how their relationship develops. Thank you Gransnet for my copy.

I've already read mine - it's what I call an iceberg book - you take it into the bath & only stop when the bath is too cold to sit in anymore.

I'm hoping there's going to be a sequel as I'd love to know what happens next

Just got my copy, thank you - love the description Goose1964!! Promising. I have solved the ironing problem by dropping the d**n thing on the kitchen floor and now it is a dead iron. Anybody got similar good suggestion for the weeding? Raindance?

Thank you Gransnet for my copy of The Newlyweds. I couldn't put it down and I'm definitely with goose1964 in needing a sequel. I love these sort of books where you can absorb information and learn from them whilst being entertained. Please can we ask Nell Freudenberger if she is considering writing a sequel?

This book is brilliant! I have found it completely unputdownable and I am engrossed in it. Such a delight to be treated to a book like this and to be introduced to an author I haven't read before.
Thank you gransnet, I am grateful. I haven't finished reading it but I am thoroughly enjoying it. So well written and characters I care about.
Wonderful stuff!

Very glad someone has started this thread and apologies for not getting there sooner <brushes sand off feet>

We'll be sending your comments and more importantly, questions to Nell Freudenberger in the next couple of weeks - dates to be confirmed when I've had time to hang up my wetsuit.

If you were lucky enough to get one of the free books, or if you fancy reading it anyway, do please ask her a question.

And we're so glad people are enjoying this book - we loved it too.

I've got, slowly, to page 111. Is something going to actually happen soon? Is there a plot? confused

It's more an American version of The Archers.

The problem I am finding is the small font size. a bit of a strain at bed time. On my kindle I can change this!! Enjoying it though.

I've really enjoyed this novel, especially the bits about Amina's extended family, who I felt were so well realised. I have a couple of comments and questions I'd like to pose, but I'll wait til nearer the time for fear of introducing a spoiler for those who are still reading.

NO SPOILERS!!!!!I have just finished reading 'The Newlyweds' and I really enjoyed it.One or two salient points which I will save for later!!! Is there is the possibility of a sequel, I would love to know what happens next to Amina and George and Kim and the extended family on both sides. It is an interesting subject, handled with understanding of both cultures, something of which I have little knowledge. Thankyou again Gransnet.

Diny Mon 29-Apr-13 18:26:14

Have thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope there will be a follow up as I would love to know how they get on.

matson Tue 30-Apr-13 18:59:58

I,m finding it slow going at the minute, I must be half way! the faint very small print isn,t helping.

laidback Wed 01-May-13 00:14:17

Am I too late for a copy? How do you apply?

j08 Wed 01-May-13 16:47:50

Matson it picks up a bit after about page 143 but I'm still crawling through it. It's not the small print.

wallers5 Thu 02-May-13 06:33:13

Thanks for the pristine new copy. Something wonderful about reading a brand new book. I find it a fascinating insight into another world. Not really my type of book but I need to know how they get on.

Found this a compelling read with convincing characters - the sort of people you could meet sitting next to you on the bus. And then I read the acknowledgements at the end and found the source of the story.
Can I ask Ms Freudenberger: How long did you live in Bangladesh researching the story and what did you think of a country we usually hear so little about? Is the attack on Amina's father your fiction? It would be sad to feel it actually happened to someone I felt I got to know.

Clytie Fri 03-May-13 08:22:12

As Diny said, I would love to know what happened next! My question to Ms Freudenberger is, do you have any plans for a sequel?
Also, I would love to know whether you think it would ultimately have been better for Amina and Nasir to give into temptation? Perhaps they would have been a closer match than Amina and George. It appears that Amina's father would have approved, and while George would have been disappointed he might have met someone more compatible.
