Our October kids’ book of the month is an illustrated treasury of bedtime stories, chosen by former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen.

If you were one of the 50 people to receive a copy of the Book of Bedtime Stories, do let us know what you think (and importantly what the grandchildren think of it) on this thread.

We'll be giving away five beautiful limited prints from the book for people who post reviews on this thread. The draw will take place at midday on Weds 30 October.

Well I hope the prints are better than the cover which looks a) amateur and b) hideously old-fashioned. Very off-putting.

What's not to like about the cover? Just because it's not Quentin Blake....

Just received my winning copy this morning and absolutely delighted with the book.

The illustrations are colourful and engaging for children. My grandson is 16 months old but I will definitely be reading this to him for many years to come.

Many thanks.

Mine has come! It's lovely. I love the illustrations, particularly the Celeste and lighthouse ones!

Thank you so much!

Our book arrived this morning, thank you so much....it is really lovely. My granddaughter is going to love the stories and the illustrations are great....nice and colourful. Our grandson is only nine months old but I'm sure this will be a book that will be passed down to him and loved by them both.

What a lovely book, thank you. Just deliberating which lucky grandchild will be getting this as an extra Christmas present. I think the youngest (nearly 3, and born on my 60th birthday) is in pole position, she will love it.

Just received my copy in the post and it looks like a lovely good old story book which will appeal to all 3 of my children (12, 10 and 6). The illustrations have a nice, classic look to them. This will be a book that we read regularly but will be passed on through the ages smile Well done Gransnet and Mumsnet and thank you so much for my copy !

I will be recommending this book to other children in the family x

Many thanks for this wonderful book. Grace, my granddaughter loves Polly ( When Polly jumped over the moon) as she has been learning 'Hey diddle diddle'. The illustrations caught her eye before we had even started reading it, so it was our first story.
Lovely book and the stories are just the right length to keep her interest.
Many thanks

It's a beautiful book and my granddaughter will get it as one of her Christmas gifts. I can't believe that someone actually had the nerve to complain about it!

Iv been looking after my grandson Murphy 2.5 years old and we have been reading it at bedtime and he loves it. It's had a calming affect as well as he knows we are going to have a snuggle and a story x

This is a lovely book and I am thrilled that I have won a copy. I particularly like the story about Celeste, who sang to the stars. The illustrations in this particular story are detailed and not 'cartoony', which I much prefer. My granddaughters are enjoying the stories greatly, so thanks very much.

Thank you for this beautiful book which has been put away as part of my youngest GD's Christmas present. I'd already added this book to my Amazon Christmas wish list grin I'm sure that she'll enjoy having these stories read to her.

Just received my copy today. What a lovely surprise, thank you so much for such a beautiful book. Looking forward to reading it with the DGC next week when they stay with me during the half term holiday. smile

Thank you to gransnet for a copy of this book. The front cover reminded me of the bedtime time story books from my childhood. I love traditional bedtime stories, they take children away from all the TV and film characters they're all so obsessed with. I actually entered a story of mine to the competition and although I was disappointed not to be one of the ten chosen they were all worthy winners.
I think it was a great idea to have stories from ordinary mums and grans who are not published writers. All the stories were good but my grandson's favourite is When Polly Jumped Over the Moon and my favourite is Celeste,Who Sang to the Stars.
This book will make a lovely Christmas gift for any child and it has brought back memories of my childhood and how excited I would be receiving a book as lovely as this one. Well done Gransnet.

Thanks for this, have now had time to get reactions from DGCs (although not at Bedtime I hasten to add!) and find they are constantly asking for stories from the book. I like the fact they are different from your average bedtime story but hold the attention just as well.

We are delighted to hear this Patricia - and we would love to hear from anyone else who got a copy in our giveaway

grannyactivist Tue 26-Nov-13 15:58:11

I didn't get a copy in the giveaway, so went out and bought one for my grandson who is nearly four. We both love it - there are a great range of stories and the illustrations are lovely too.

This is a very traditional book but that's why I love it and its new to the kids! The wonderful pictures and different short stories helped to keep the kids entertained. A great book for reading over and over again, for bed time or keeping the kids happy during the afternoon.
