Has any one read The Last Runaway by Tracey Chevalier? I am reading it at the moment and can highly recommend it if you want a plain and simple read. It is about black slaves in America and a Quaker family's involvement in helping them. It is fascinating how she writes in such a simple fashion that seems to tie in with the simplicity of the Quaker lifestyle, and yet it keeps you wanting to read on. I love it smile

Finished reading it last night! Never read any Tracey Chevalier before and was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for reminding me. I read a review of it a while back and it sounded very good; then I forgot all about it. I've loved her other books [apart from Burning Bright which i couldn't get into although I need to give it another go].

I couldn't put The Lady and the Unicorn down; wanted to go straight to Paris to see the tapestries when I'd finished it.

She has done her historical research well and I agree it is a good read. The Quaker aspect was particularly interesting and the quilting "detail". Not great literature perhaps, but an entertaining read.

Tegan, it's worth seeing La Dame et la Licorne tapestry in the Musée de Cluny. I've been a couple of times and wouldn't mind seeing it again. But don't go on a Tuesday. My sister and I strolled up there two years ago and found it closed. So confusing, it usually seems that everything that's going to close does so on a Monday which is why we hadn't gone there on the Monday!

They were either 'on tour' or being repaired when we were there. But it's a good excuse to go back to Paris wink.
