Love this book, both for the story - intrepid girl searching for a present for her mum - and the illustrations, which are I think pastels, very delicate but strong if that makes sense. And every spread has loads of small details tucked away in the corners, so you read it once for the plot, then go back many times to find the little extras.

And it's translated from the French, so the pics are all of a small French town, with French shops, for another discussion.

This is a lovely book. Thank you so much.
My granddaughter loved reading it by herself and my grandson sat very quietly and listened (almost a first!). She loved the French shop names too.

What a lovely surprise to receive this book. I love the walk through the shops in a French town, the message about how you can be the best at something, the generosity and warmth conveyed and most of all the entrancing pictures. Not sure I can part with it for my granddaughter, maybe when she's older.....

I think this is a very appealing book. It has colourful illustrations and an intriguing title. I'm going to give it to my 4 year old grandson as an extra Xmas present.

Is this the December Book Club Book? I must have missed the application info if so, I've been asking and also checking for the date! Am I too late to apply?

Thank you so much for the lovely book, looking forward to reading it with DGD tomorrow. Have enjoyed it myself already.

My eldest DGD was off school poorly today. Lying on my sofa feeling very sorry for herself she barely looked up when the postman knocked at the door. I opened it and was handed a brown paper package. Her curiosity got the better of her and she asked if she could open it. Her little face completely lit up when she saw this delightful book. We read it together all cosy. I have to say that this is one of the nicest books I have come across in ages. The title alone is fantastic and the illustrations are unbeatable. Just the thing to lift a poorly little girls spirits on a miserable Tuesday afternoon.

Thank you so much GNHQ. I can see this one being a firm favourite for a long time to come.

It's lovely, isn't it! I am going to read mine to the DGCs on Christmas Eve - followed by The Night Before Christmas. Can't wait!

Thank you so much for this delightful book.
I think this is one to stay at Grandma's house for when the DGC come for sleepovers. It is so lovely I don't want to let them take it home!
