Circe by Madeline Miller

I was one of the lucky winners of this book. Many decades have gone since I last read the Greek myths but my memories of them rapidly returned as I read Circe. Unlike the Observer reviewer on the back cover I didn't read it "gobbled greedily in one session" but the more I got into it the more time I spent reading it at a time. Circe is told in the first person so the reader learns her story from her perspective, her thoughts, wishes, experiences, how her character develops. The character of Circe really comes alive. The book is beautifully written.

I won this book too. It was different to what vie read before took me a while to get into but was worth the read.

This is on my to buy list. I read, and thoroughly enjoyed, her book Song of Achilles. She has a way of bringing Greek history to life.

Having been one of the lucky winners of this book I have just recently got round to reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it brought Greek mythology to life in an interesting way. The beautiful binding and presentation of the book itself added to my enjoyment. I now want to read "Song of Achilles"

I bought this book on Kindle. I loved it. I do like all Greek myths. This was excellent. If you haven't read Song of Achilles do try it. Excellent book.

I know it’s some time since anyone posted on this thread, but I went on to read ‘Circe’, which I got from the library, having been on a very long waiting list for it. I haven’t enjoyed a book so much for a long time, and I bought a copy so that I could enjoy it again. Madeline Miller’s prose style is as intoxicating as Mary Renault’s was and her research is every bit as meticulous. You could almost say the same about Natalie Haynes, who writes in similar vein.
