An Italian Summer by Fanny Blake

I had never read any of Fanny Blake’s books before and really didn’t know what to expect. I was delighted to find that this was really enjoyable The characters of all the people on the Italian trip are really well defined. I could almost picture them and also the descriptions of the places that they travelled to.
There are two interlocking themes throughout the book. Sandy is looking for someone that her dying mother wished her to contact and Alice is trying to resolve problems with her philandering husband. It is about women discovering their true selves and their future lives.
I shall certainly read more of this author’s books.

I looked at buying the same book in the summer when looking for new reads. In the end I didn't, mainly because I'd never heard of the author. Having read your comments I am now thinking it may be a good read for my upcoming holiday. There are so many published books now, it's good to get another reader's opinion.

Funnily enough...An Italian Summer will be our book of the month for October. We will be launching it in the next day or two - but would love those who have already read it to join in the conversation...there will be a thread coming up in a couple of weeks where you can leave comments and questions for Fanny

gillyknits, thanks for recommending Fanny Blake. I picked up one of her books at the library and enjoyed it so am going back for another one this morning. I took advantage of the lovely weather for the last couple of days and spent two afternoons in the garden with my book.

A strange thing - I was sure I had posted to say that no - there will be a new thread started on Monday for book club thoughts and questions for Fanny's book. But it has vanished! But good to hear the copies are arriving and look out for the book club thread at the start of the week

I came in after a tiring afternoon and a long wait for my bus ready for a hot drink and a rest. An Italian Summer was on the mat, a lovely surprise. Tonight may be early to bed with a book!
This week I finished Eleanor Oliphant which I very much enjoyed and am recommending to several people.

HI CariGransnet, I have not been luck enough to win a book since the May book, in the past I would get a book most months and I know the book giveaways are very popular and a win is not guaranteed but I wonder if I am not filling in the form correctly or if the new data ruling that came into affect in May is stopping my entry getting sent. Is there something I need to do to my settings, or I just not as luck as I was?

Hello obag

It really is the luck of the draw. We can get 500+ applications for 50 books and the winners are drawn at random. Do keep entering - there will be more fab books coming up

REMINDER

We have set up a separate thread for book club so do leave your thoughts and questions on there and we will send them to Fanny at the end of the month

CariGransnet, Thank for your prompt reply, you have set my mind at rest, that I am not filling in the form incorrectly. I will of course continue to enter and also to leave my thoughts, as I enjoy Gransnet so much.
