For me it's Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning.

She had an extremely controlling and cruel father (he threatened her little dog Flush if she didn't obey him) and
was confined to the upstairs room in her father's house for many years.

However, her book of poetry made her famous and Browning visited, fell in love and contrived a secret wedding. She was 40.

After a blissfully happy marriad life in Italy, though with many personal sadnesses, she died at 55 in Robert's arms.
