Oh dear it’s my next book !

I agree bonfire, there was too much hype surrounding it which raised expectations, but once I just accepted it for what it was, I enjoyed it, and will read the sequel when it comes out next year.

I have bought it but not read it yet, I hope I won't be disappointed.

DH has just been given a copy by his brother who couldn’t get into it. I’ll give it a go when I’ve finished my current bedside book, Daniel Cole- Ragdoll.

Finished it last week. I wasn’t aware of the hype, so I had no expectations.

Not bad.

I read it a few weeks ago and feel rather half-hearted about it. I shall not be bothering with the sequel.
RO was on Sara Cox's 'Between the covers' book programme last week. None of the books discussed appealed to me, except possibly Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh. Has anyone read it?
Maybe I am not intelligent enough for most of the books covered! Nevertheless, I am still enjoying the series (BBC2 on Fridays at 7.30pm).

I can really recommend "Hamnet" by Maggie O'Farrell which my daughter and I thought was wonderful.

Also recommend "The Mission House" by Carys Davies.

No it is an easy read and quite a pleasant way to pass an hour.

It's on my Christmas list as well.

Might just take it off now.

The thing about TTMC is that, it was published and all the "lovies" fawned over it, so it very quickly went to No 1 on the ST list.

Now mere mortals are reading it (the real readership) ... and - it is okay, but not great. So I agree it doesn't live up to the hype.

Expected great things, bought it on release day, very disappointing!

A pleasant way to pass a Christmas Day on your own. I like the book but, not giving anything away, I was a little disappointed with one person’s harsh attitude to another.

We got fifty fifty after seeing it on between the covers and did like it but not as much as the reviewers on there seemed to do . Thought it would make a good film . If anyone can suggest a good family saga type story with a bit of humour Id appreciate it ? I like Jodi picoult and Anne Tyler . Thanks

Ouch.....just gave this as a Christmas present!

I bought it on Audible and returned it after listening to 2 hours . Dull as ditchwater in my view and didn’t grab me at all .

Steven Spielberg likes it. He's bought the film rights.

I gave up after 150 pages, I found it really dull, not sure what all the fuss was about, wonder if it would have been snapped up and published if the writer hadn't got such a high profile. Possibly my judgement was clouded by having just finished Troubled Blood which I thoroughly enjoyed.

However, possibly it will make a better dramatisation, I wasn't mad about Normal People when I read it, but thought the tv programme was exceptional.

Books are subjective of course, to those who have just bought it or received you may love it!

If a film is made, which actors would you suggest play the parts?

Actually I’m finding it an entertaining read - perfect after-Christmas fare. He writes cleverly and with humour.
When somebody in my book group suggested it I had definite reservations but while it may not be great literature - it’s a good read!

I found it a good read, not gripping, but I did enjoy it. Bought it for half price and will pass it on.
